How to leave the aquarium at the time of the county in the regular vacation

Hello dear colleagues and readers. In today’s article, I would like to dispel some doubts about how to combine frequent business trips and aquarist.

Also today you will learn what to do with your aquarium if you are going on vacation or a business trip.

Suppose you are going on vacation or on a business trip. You look at your aquarium and you think how much to feed the fish with enough food for several days.

Or pretending in your mind where to get new fish, because on returning from the last trip you saw your fish swimming with a belly up. Bad luck, but to do something and disrupt the course of such events is necessary.

First you need to siphon the soil, how to do it correctly you can find out in this article. It is better to siphon the soil in several passes to clean it to the maximum, this is especially necessary if you leave for a week or two.

Let’s say you siphonite a third of the ground on Tuesday, the second third on Thursday and the rest on Saturday. If you clean the aquarium several times a week, these omissions can be avoided.

But be sure to do the last cleaning the day before your departure.

Before the county, double the frequency of substitution, that is, if you made substitution on Monday and Thursday, make one substitution between the two days and another one per day from departure. In any case, the water changes you have to coincide with the days of the substrate siphon, so it turns out more productively.

Before leaving on vacation or on a business trip, remove your filter from the aquarium and rinse and clean it properly. It should work like a clock and the flow it produces should be the same as at the time of purchase.

Before leaving your pets for a long time, you should teach them a little in advance. That is, one week before departure, transfer all the inhabitants of the aquarium to a trimmed ration.

Remove from their diet food that spoils the water and generally reduce the amount of food. Before leaving, do not add organic fertilizer to plants in the aquarium; this will help to keep the water clean for much longer.

Cleaning decoration and glass fouling

As with the water change, one day before departure, clean all the elements of the scenery and glass from fouling. This is especially true if your bank is overpowered by Vietnamese and other stuff, and you don’t have fish that eat algae in your tank.

Before leaving for a business trip, set the temperature a couple of degrees lower than usual. This will make it possible to slow down the flow of biological processes in the aquarium.

However, if in your aquarium so the lower temperature threshold is set for most fish, then a further decrease is excluded.

Perhaps this is the whole list of necessary activities during long absences. As a rule, such thorough preparation will be enough for you for a month ahead. Most fish endure a hunger strike without any problems.

The main disadvantage of such lengthy “diets” is the excessive aggressiveness towards relatives and young animals. If there is a shortage of food in an aquarium, then fry and adolescents will be considered by adult relatives as nutritious broth.

But if you leave for a week or two, then such thorough preparation is not required.

I would like to mention one essential detail. If you leave and leave an illiterate person to feed the fish, then let him necessarily replace the water in the aquarium. This is necessary to ensure that the bank does not accumulate excess organics and other harmful substances.

If there is no substitution, then there is no food, so safer. In addition, warn strictly to not overfeeding the fish.

Better pre-pack food in portions for each feed.

So you returned from vacation and look at the starving people from the Volga region. The first thing that overcomes an aquarist is to give as much food as possible to his starving pets. But this is fundamentally the wrong approach after a long absence.

First you have to take out the filter and rinse it, then siphon the soil and change 1/5 of the water to fresh, and only then feed it. But in any case, do not feed a lot.

You should smoothly move to the usual feeding mode. Remember that drastic changes in water parameters for the better and for the worse can be disastrous for fish.

I would like to warn you more. Prepare for the fact that in your tank there may be outbreaks of various diseases related to the weakened immunity of the fish during your absence.

Therefore, in this period it is better not to settle in the water of new tenants who have not passed through quarantine. I would also like to dissuade aquarists from salting water in the treatment of live bears.

The fact is that while you have not been at home for a couple of weeks, a large amount of nitrates has accumulated in aqua, which are harmful in high concentrations. And salt water their toxicity increases significantly.

Therefore, if you do not want to destroy your fish, it is better not to add salt to the water.

That’s basically all that is not clear, you can ask in the comments.
