How often to feed the fish

maintenance, care, compatibility

In order to understand how many times a day it is necessary to feed aquarium fish, it is necessary to understand the peculiarities of their nutrition in their natural habitat. All types of fish borrowed from their natural ancestors taste preferences and diet.

What do all the fish usually eat?

To feed the fish you need so that they do not overeat, and were full of food. Diet depends on the age of the pet and the characteristics of its digestive system. Adults usually eat 2 times a day, which is enough for them.

Youngsters aged 1-2 months should eat 4 times a day. And fry up to one month old need to be fed every 3-6 hours. During the spawning period, the fish should be given less food, sometimes not feeding the first few days after breeding.

Two weeks before spawning, producers, on the contrary, should correctly produce more live food.

No matter how many fish you keep, you need to give them all the food at the same time. Begin in the morning, an hour after turning on the lights.

The last feeding should occur 2 hours before the lighting is turned off. The question of novice aquarists is how much food to give, and how often? Give us enough food so that they can eat it in 5 minutes.

Do not feed often, but in small portions, so that they completely swallow them. Unfinished leftovers can be removed with a net to avoid rotting.

Feed pellets depend on the age and size of the fish. Juveniles should eat food that does not exceed the size of their eyes. Dry food in the form of granules, flakes and tablets is recommended to be ground to dust.

Adult fish like to grab larger particles of food, they do not eat dust. In order for all the inhabitants of the household water body to be satisfied with feeding, install special feeders for dry and live food in the tank.

Of these, food is not frayed, and pets can eat it calmly.

See how to properly feed dry fish aquarium fish.

There are general feeding rules for all fish that need to be followed constantly:

  • Properly feed the fish with the food that is right for them, consider the physiological characteristics of all species living in the general aquarium.
  • Do not overfeed your pets – give food not too often, in small portions.
  • For aquarium fish, the best nutrition is a variety of foods.
  • No matter how much food you put in the tank, remove the remnants of it after the meal.
  • The number of meals should correspond to the size and age of the fish.
  • Do not feed the fish immediately after turning on the light, or before bedtime.
  • In the diet of aquarium fish should be natural food, and not just artificial, purchased.

Anyone who has at least a little experience in breeding aquarium fish knows perfectly how important the proper feeding of fish is. And this is not always easy – because each breed needs certain feed.

One needs a lot of protein, others need a large amount of carbohydrates. It depends on many factors – the size of the fish, its origin and lifestyle.

So, sometimes it is not easy to find exactly the kind of food that will benefit your pets.

Of course, it is worth knowing not only what, but also how much fish should be fed in order not to harm them. And again it depends on the needs of the fish.

Remember: large and mobile fish need a lot of feed.

For example, a small barbus burns so much energy, flying from one corner of the aquarium to another, that it needs to consume much more food than the roosters, the larger fish, who lead a very calm and unhurried life. But in any case, it is enough to give the fish as much food as they can eat in five to seven minutes.

Later, they no longer eat with such appetite, and some of the food is at the bottom, where it rots and spoils the water.

To distribute the food between the fish equally, it is desirable to teach the fish to gather at a certain time or by a signal near the feeder. Then it does not happen that some fish will eat two servings, while others will remain hungry.

It should determine in advance how often you will feed the aquarium fish. The best solution for adult fish is two feed feeds per day – in the morning and in the evening.

When feeding, do not forget to easily snap your fingernail on the glass near the feeder – the fish will get used to the fact that such a signal portends dinner, and they will immediately float away.

But if you grow young, two feedings per day is not enough. To fry turned into large and beautiful adult fish, it will be better to feed them four to five times a day.

Of course, you do not need to give too much food so that it will not be wasted.

When you settled such wonderful pets as goldfish in your home aquarium, the question immediately arises: “How and what to feed these cute creatures?”. In fact, feeding the fish in the aquarium is not difficult.

First, it is an omnivorous species of fish, and secondly, when pets get used to the owner, they can be given food with their own hands.

It is guppies that open for most aquarists an amazing and wonderful world of aquarism. Indeed, most often these fish are turned on by novice aquarists in order to gain nursing and breeding skills.

And this is a great solution. On the one hand, guppies are among the most unpretentious fish. They are ready to eat any food and are able to live in the smallest aquarium – even in the usual three-liter jar.

But at the same time they are surprisingly diverse and beautiful. Huge tails of different shapes, bright colors – thanks to all this, a flock of guppies looks great in good light.

Of course, if you only recently brought them, then you probably wonder how much to feed the guppies and what.

In general, there is nothing complicated. To feed the guppy you need so much food, which will be eaten within five minutes. More feed is not needed – later the fish eat without much appetite, in reserve.

Therefore, part of the food falls to the bottom, where it decomposes and spoils the water. And, of course, the extra food eaten turns into fat deposits, which will negatively affect the health of the fish.

So it will be useful to remember one of the main commandments of aquarists – it is better to underfeed than overfeed.

Guppy food quality is also not very picky. In general, you can even grow several generations of guppies, using only dry food – daphnia and gammarusa.

But then you should not hope that the fish will be really big and bright.

So, if you have such an opportunity, it is better to combine dry fodder with bloodworms and pipemaker.

It is equally important to know how often to feed the guppies. The best solution would be two meals.

Enough to feed the fish twice a day – in the morning and in the evening.

But this applies only to adults. If you grow fry, it is better to feed them three times a day.

Live dust or a hard boiled yolk of a boiled egg, pounded and dissolved in water, is perfect for feeding.

But you have to be careful with him – the water may start to deteriorate from him.
