Dear colleagues! Today I want to talk to you about such an interesting fish called the sunny perch. This fish is quite common in the lower reaches of most rivers, which flow into the Black Sea in the north-western part of it.
Fishermen even called him a king. Most likely, the reason for this name was the beautiful coloring of the fish.
NFZolotnitsky even wrote about his beauty, who could not even find words and emotions to characterize it in more detail.
Females differ from males in not so bright blue color and coral earrings near the edge of the protrusion of the gills. The females have these earrings, but they are yellow and the males are red.
That in females, that in males, the fins have a golden yellow hue. This fish got into our waters back in 1965 from North America. Perch was caught in Europe in 1877 by Beggom, who received the first offspring from this fish.
As a result, for a short period of time, perches massively settled in the waters of Western Europe. When the fish hit the Danube River, it could not reach other rivers that flow into the northwestern part of the Black Sea. Today, the solar perch can be found even in the middle part of the Dnieper.
The main reason for the successful settlement of this fish along our rivers is the interest in this individual of aquarists.
Those specimens that were caught in nature, reached a length of about 15 centimeters, but in aquariums they do not grow more than 10 centimeters. Fish simply acclimatize in any aquarium and a pair of adults will be enough capacity of 60 liters. As aquarium soil is better to take the washed pebbles.
It is not advisable to use aquarium plants that take root in the soil, preferably in pots or floating in the water column. During spawning, they simply dig up plants from the ground.
The main food for adult perch is a pipe worker, bloodworm, daphnia, or give scythe.
Sunny perch easily gets along with traditional aquarium fish, but during spawning, their nature changes dramatically. If there are several males in the bank, then they each occupy their own territory and protect it.
With the lower lobe of the tail, the male pulls out in the aquarium soil a round recess of the correct shape with a depth of 5 cm and a diameter of 20 centimeters. In the process of preparing the nest, he constantly hangs over the nest and chases away from him all the uninvited guests, even the female.
If the aquarium is small and there are several males in it, then the edges of the pits will be closely located, which will immediately lead to clashes of the males.
As soon as the construction of the nest is completed, the male begins to drive the female towards him. She swims there and is located at the very bottom of the spawning fossa and the male is right there. She begins to rub against each other and the process of spawning has gone.
In total, this procedure takes about an hour. Over time, the female can lay up to 300 eggs.
A small caviar will stick to the pebbles, the male will push the female out of the hole and carefully guard her, while driving all the fish.
It is quite interesting to observe the behavior of the solar perch, if there are several males and one female in the same aquarium. All males prepare nests, all participate in spawning, but the right to be the first to care for the female from a stronger male.
With pectoral fins, the father creates a stream of water over the roe, blowing out dead caviar and all kinds of garbage from it. The larvae of eggs will appear in two days, if the water temperature is within 20-24 degrees. The larvae themselves are very small.
If the spawning is productive, the iris of the fry eyes becomes silver, and the nest begins to silver.
After 6 days, small things crawl out of the nest and the male’s attempts to return them to their homeland are not crowned with success. Just at this time, the male is desirable to set down. All small things will concentrate in one corner of the can.
Starter feed for fry will go fine live dust. Despite the fact that young perch eat decently, they grow at the same time rather slowly and very unevenly. If at one month of age the fry reach 5-6 mm in length, then in two months it ranges from 0.7 to 2.3 centimeters.
For this reason, from three months of life the fry are sorted by size, so that the larger and stronger ones do not kill the smaller ones. Sunny perch is considered an unpretentious aquarium fish and for it the conditions of detention are not particularly important.
They winter wonderfully in frozen ponds and easily tolerate temperatures of 30 degrees. This fish can be kept in the pool, park pond or large aquarium.
