Guppy fish – the most beautiful inhabitant of a species aquarium

Dear colleagues! I think every newbie has seen such beautiful and colorful fish with large tails in pet stores.

This you have seen guppy fish – the most popular and most common aquarium fish. Most novice aquarists began their acquaintance with aquatic organisms with this particular fish.

Guppy is a favorite subject of geneticists. The variegated color and the large tail can be boasted only by males that grow small, with a maximum of 3-4 centimeters.

And females are much larger and denser than men, sometimes reaching 6 centimeters in length, but the truth is not so beautiful. Mostly females are gray and inconspicuous, although variegated females with large tail fins can be seen.

The advantage of the content of guppies is the fact that they can be safely presented to the child. For your Kinder, you can buy a small 30-liter jar and put it on the desk.

Up to 8 fish can easily fit in this volume. If the density of landing fish in the aquarium is small, then you can not worry about the aeration and filtration of aquarium water, the main thing is to plant unpretentious aquarium plants.

Here the main thing is to regularly replace the water with fresh and siphon soil. It is also not a problem additional lighting aquarium with guppies. During the day you can not worry about him, the main thing is that the aquarium was not in direct sunlight, but at the same time, on a well-lit area.

Desk near the window is perfect. In the evening, you can additionally illuminate the aquarium with guppies by using a regular desk lamp.

You can feed your pets with dry industrial food. By the way, these aquarium fish will easily endure a week-long hunger strike while you are not at home, so it’s not necessary to pry the neighbors to feed your pets.

Here you should always remember the golden rule of aquarism – underfeeding is better than overfeeding. In addition, an excessive concentration of not eaten food will cause damage to the aquarium water and the fish will die.

At the moment, the aquarium fish guppy has multiplied in almost all freshwater bodies of water. Initially, they distributed this fish in order to fight the anopheles mosquito, because they devour their larvae superbly.

The countries of Latin and South America are home to guppes, and in particular there are many in Brazil, Guyana and Venezuela. About aquaria in Brazil, I already wrote on the blog, you can read the article. They can even be found on the territory of Russia, where warm drains are discharged.

They appeared there most likely thanks to aquarists who specifically released them.

At present, guppies are bred in almost every home aquarium, and they are successfully bred without the participation of an aquarist. Source codes were taken from nature, therefore it is unrealistic to systematize them.

There is a huge number of tail variations: it happens with two swords, a round tail fin, a lira, a radish and one sword. As for me, the fish with monophonic color look more impressive and beautiful: red albino, black prince, Moscow malachite, Moscow blue.

It looks very beautiful marble guppes, whose tails have a black and yellow or black and white color.

As I have already said, guppies are unpretentious aquarium fish, so even for newbies there shouldn’t be any difficulties with the content. They are also not demanding on the composition of feed and water. However, if you still want to grow handsome males, then there should already be ideal conditions of detention.

The hardness of the water should not exceed 10 dH, the temperature of the water should be 24 ° C, despite the fact that guppies can live during wide temperature spreading from 18 to 30 ° C. As expected, once a week it is necessary to replace part of the water with fresh one, and it is desirable that the temperature be the same as in the aquarium.

It would be nice to add to the aquarium table salt in the proportion of a teaspoon to 10 liters of water. Although guppies can live without problems in three-liter jars, usually this fish is kept in aquariums with a displacement of 50 liters, expecting a liter of water for a male and two liters for a female.

A prerequisite is intensive aeration of the aquarium and filtration of aquarium water.

Guppies men often bully each other when caring for females, but all these clashes have no serious consequences. However, it is a problem to keep guppies with other larger aquarium fish.

This applies to males with lush and beautiful tails.

You can keep guppes with other small peaceful aquarium fish. Just want to say that even small cherry barbs create some problems.

Best of all, I would advise you to keep guppies in a species bank. A key factor in creating a beautiful coloring of males is intense lighting.

It is important to create long-lasting and intense lighting + sunlight in the morning. Guppies in aquariums uniformly colonize all layers.

To feed these aquatic animals is quite simple. Since they are constantly hungry, they eat any food. However, there is a little trick.

To get a beautiful color of males and their intensive growth, you need to feed the fish with good feed live and frozen.

I already wrote about the harmful effects of high temperature on the body of the fish, so, I will repeat it again. The higher the temperature of the water in the aquarium, the faster the metabolic processes take place and the fish do not live long from this.

Be sure to densely plant the aquarium with plants and leave enough space for swimming. Aquarium plants are used by females as a shelter from annoying males. And if guppies multiplied in the general aquarium, then in the grass thickets they hide from predators and larger brethren.

More guppes are friends of aquarium plants.

I think no one will have difficulty breeding guppies at home, as they themselves, without the participation of an aquarist, will breed like rabbits. You will not even know where to put them and will be floated into the toilet. Buy one female in the store and she is guaranteed to bring you about a dozen times offspring.

Guppies are viviparous fishes, therefore instead of throwing caviar, they toss at once already ready fry. Caviar itself develops inside the female until full maturity, and the fry are ready to eat and swim into the light.

Fertilization of the female is carried out using gonopia, a special organ in the male, which is transformed from the anal fin. A female “walks pregnant” for about one and a half months, it all depends on the temperature of the water in the aquarium. Also on the duration of pregnancy affects the age of the fish and the intensity of its feeding.

For the first litter, the female can give about a dozen fry, in contrast to old fish, which may even 100 pieces to start.

That’s basically all you need to know about guppies. Who has never contained them, you can safely buy and experiment.

All the best to you.
