Goldfish Shubunkin: photos, content and reproduction

Hello, friends! Today we will digress from studying the Cichl family and get acquainted with the beautiful carp. It will be about the golden fish Shubunkin, which the Japanese called Calico.

Goldfish Shubunkin is a selective form of CARASSIUS AURATUS.

Unlike the common crucian, Shubunkin has longer fins and transparent scales. The tail fin is two-bladed and rather large.

The most interesting thing about this goldfish is its coloring. In her dress there are yellow, blue, red and white colors.

Very often Calico is called “Calico” goldfish.

Most of all in the price of those fish that have a blue or purple color in color. These colors usually appear by the age of three. In addition to the standard Shubunkin, there is also a species, which has a shorter body and a high dorsal fin.

The Japanese painted the print style so much that the Japanese liked it so much that they put telescopes, oranges and voile tails in such colors. All the resulting hybrids received in the title prefix Calico.

The maximum length of the fish in aquarium conditions is 20 centimeters.

Kaliko are considered to be calm inhabitants of an aquarium, therefore, as neighbors to them it is necessary to settle fish with the same morals. For one pair of fish, it is recommended to acquire a 100-liter aqua, where they will feel quite comfortable.

If you have a large volume, then the number of tenants can be slightly increased. For example, in a 150-liter can you can settle up to 4 fish, and 200-liter – up to 6.

However, with increasing numbers, you will have to increase the intensity of aeration of the aquarium. Why I do not like scrofulous, because they love poking around in the ground and raise the dregs.

In order not to give them such an opportunity, the substrate must be large, for example, small pebbles or granotsev.

It is preferable to keep scrofula in species aquariums with a large number of strong aquarium plants with a strong root system (Anubias nana, Schizandra, saggitarius, Canadian Elodea, Vallisneria). The fish gets on well with small harazinki (red neons, ternetias, rhodostomoses, minors, ornatus), as well as with aquarium attendants (antsistrus, gyrinoheylus).

The composition of the aquarium water Calico is not demanding and can feel great in the water with the following indicators:

  • Temperature: 15-30 degrees;
  • Stiffness: from 8 to 25 dH;
  • Acidity: pH 6 to pH 8

Since the Shubunkins are real pigs, you will often have to change the water in the aquarium. In feeding, the fish is unpretentious and eats well both live food and plant food. I would like to warn you, Kaliko is very voracious, so you do not overfeed them.

Feed them twice a day, but not much. On average, in one session, pets should eat all food within 10-20 minutes.

And the remaining remaining uneaten food from the aquarium must be removed, otherwise there will be problems with algae and excess organic matter, which may begin to rot. If your fish receive a complete and balanced diet, they can withstand a week-long starvation. This is especially true if you go on vacation or a business trip.

About how to leave the aquarium during the holidays, you can read here.

Practically all scrofula can spawn in a separate 20-30 liter spawning. A sandy substrate is placed in it and small-leaved aquarium plants are planted.

For breeding, one female and several three-year-old males are placed in the spawn. Manufacturers must be kept separate from each other for several weeks before spawning.

The water temperature in the spawning aquarium should be in the range of 24-26 degrees. The stimulus to spawning is a gradual increase in water temperature by 5-10 degrees. A signal of readiness for breeding for an aquarist is the rapid movement of males around females.

At this point, the females lose their eggs, which mainly falls on the leaves of the aquarium plants. Over time, the female can sweep up to 10,000 eggs.

At the end of the spawning season, the producers are removed from the aquarium so that they do not eat all the eggs. Starter feed for fry can be live dust.

In addition, in the diet of young animals, you can add specialized feed for small fish goldfish, such as Sera Mikron.
