Golden neon: rules of keeping in a home aquarium

Amazon has repeatedly presented to the lovers of the aquarium all sorts of surprises. This time we will talk about gold neon, which is practically not found in domestic aquariums.

Either they forgot about this fish safely, giving preference to the red and blue neons we are used to, or, for some reason, unknown to me.

However, do not talk about this interesting fish is still worth it. The maximum body length of a dwarf golden neon does not exceed 18 millimeters, the standard is 15 millimeters. A golden stripe runs along the entire body and glows brighter than anything near the eyes of the fish.

The main color of neon is olive gray. During periods of activity, the abdomen of a neon acquires a slightly pink hue, and a longitudinal strip in the reflected light casts a purple.

Golden neon is a large and brisk fish that looks great among the dense thickets of plants. Lonely fish easily wedge in small flocks of small tetras, wedge-spreading rasbor, nanostomuses, and other small living creatures.

With bright and intense lighting, the fish living in the “black” water become extremely shy. Accordingly, to avoid stress, the lighting in the aquarium should be moderate.

Despite the fact that the aquatic animal feels great under wide ranges of living conditions:

  • Water hardness up to 15 degrees;
  • active reaction environment 5.8 – 7.5 pH;
  • water temperature from 20 to 24 degrees.

Golden dwarf neon reaches puberty at the age of 6 months. To propagate this fish, you can even use a three-liter glass jar.

Spawning occurs, as a rule, in the morning the next day. It’s funny to watch the fussing movements of a couple that rush around in the thickets of plants in search of a suitable place for spawning.

The duration of spawning with alternating short pauses lasts about 40 to 50 minutes.

The fecundity of one female does not exceed 80 – 90 eggs. Due to the fact that the eggs have negative phototaxis, the spawning aquarium should be covered with a dark cloth or thick paper.

The incubation period for caviar is a day – two, at the end of which the young neon begins to actively swim in the aquarium. Starter feed for neon fry – rotifers and ciliates. Golden stripe in young animals is manifested in the fourth week of life.

Adult individuals love small vitamin plankton, devils, shallow bloodworms, cortex, cyclops, and moinos. With the active feeding of chopped bloodworms or Artemia, as well as a water temperature of 27 to 30 degrees, females crawl rather quickly and then they cannot fully reproduce.

The maximum lifespan of gold neon in an aquarium is not more than 4 years.
