Girinoheylus (Gyrinocheilus aymonieri) – called yet Chinese Seaweed

Habitat: inhabits mountain streams in China, Thailand, Laos, Malaysia, Cambodia and the island of Kalimantan.

Description: body low and strongly elongated. The abdomen is flat, and the profile of the back is slightly arched.

On the mouth of the suction cup there are hard, rough plates, lips are wide.

This structure of the mouth allows the fish to scrape algal fouling and to hold tight on various surfaces. The tail fin is two-bladed.

Body color varies from grayish to yellow-brown and olive. Some individuals have dark spots and a longitudinal strip along the body.

Scales with dark edging, which creates the effect of a grid on the body of the fish. The fins are gray or yellow.

There may be several dark spots on the tail.

Girinoheylus (Gyrinocheilus aymonieri)

Females are painted less intensely, differ by a more rounded line of the abdomen. Males are easily distinguished during spawning by a fat tubercle formed on the head.

Girinoheylus – golden form (Gyrinocheilus aymonieri gold)

In habitat, the girinohaylos grows up to 30 cm, in conditions of an aquarium it is usually not more than 15 cm.

Arrangement and parameters of the aquarium: if the Siamese seaweed is contained in the general aquarium, the volume of water per individual must be at least 30 liters.

The best option – an aquarium of 100 liters. Plants are planted thickly. As the soil suitable coarse sand or pebbles of a small fraction.

Be sure to put snags into the aquarium, from which the girinoheylus gets the substances it needs.

For decoration fit large stones, ceramic ornaments, grottoes. The latter will be particularly relevant if Girinoheylus (Gyrinocheilus aymonieri) lives in an aquarium with their own kind. Fish, especially adults, are extremely aggressive towards the representatives of their own kind, territorial.

The presence of many shelters will minimize conflicts and fights that sometimes end with the death of a weaker fish.

Water parameters: 23-26 ° C, pH 6-8, dH 5-20.

Requires active filtration with aeration, weekly replacement of a third of water.

For neighbors represent some danger. To calm fish, even large ones, the hilinoheylus can suck, as a result, severe damage to the skin leads to the death of the fish.

Nutrition: The basis of nutrition should be vegetable feed: scalded spinach and lettuce leaves. From live and frozen fodder, pipelayer, bloodworm, coretica, daphnia and artemia are permissible.

Since the fish feed near the bottom, dry food needs sinking: pellets, tablets and other species intended for benthic species.

When feeding only live food prone to obesity.

Reproduction: breeding cases in domestic aquariums are very rare and the process of breeding hirinoheylus is difficult, but under all conditions it is possible to achieve success.

Spawning should be very spacious – more than 200 liters. At the bottom of the separator is placed mesh, in the corner – a filter to create a small flow.

For successful spawning, enhanced aeration and average illumination of the aquarium are also required. You can put in spawning a few plants with large leaves.

Water parameters in the spawning aquarium: 24 ° C, pH 6.8, dH 4-5. Daily replacement of 10% water.

A female with a rounded belly and a pair of males are planted for spawning. The female needs two hormonal injections: before spawning and immediately after planting for spawning.

If you run the fish in spawning in the evening, by the middle of the next day the female will set aside 3000-4000 eggs. Manufacturers should be immediately deposited.

Incubation takes a day, but the percentage of healthy caviar is extremely small due to the susceptibility of the eggs to fungal diseases. Whitened caviar should be removed.

When the fry swim, you can start feeding them lively dust, crushed vegetable food, egg yolk. At the age of one week, the girinohailus can already take rotifer and artemia.

The young, unlike adult fish, are very peaceful and do not show aggression towards each other.

Lifespan Girinoheylus (Gyrinocheilus aymonieri) 5-6 years.
