Fishes galaxy

maintenance, care, compatibility

Micro-collection of the galaxy Danio margaritatus, (and earlier Celestichthys margaritatus, also mistakenly called Microrasbora galaxy) is an incredibly popular, beautiful fish, which sensationally appeared in amateur aquariums just recently. Moreover, many have suggested that this is photoshop, since such fish have not appeared in aquarium hobby for a long time.

In this article, we will look at it in detail, where it came from, how to contain a micro-assembly galaxy and how to breed it.

But in fact, the micro-survey of the galaxy was discovered just a few weeks before reports appeared on it, found it in a small pond in Southeast Asia, in Burma. The area where it was discovered was very rarely visited by Europeans and subsequently became the site of the discovery of several more fish.

But none of these species could compare with the galaxy, it was in fact something special.

The new fish received the name of the micro-analysis of the galaxy and later even changed the Latin name to Danio margaritatus, as the scientists did not know at first what kind of it to carry.
Scientists have agreed that this fish does not belong to any known species, and in February 2007, Dr. Tyson.R. Roberts (Tyson R. Roberts) published a scientific description of the species.

He also gave a new name for the galaxy, as he discovered that it is much closer to danios than rassouts and the previous name was confusing. The first name of the fish – Celestichthys margaritatus could be translated

Considering the dimensions of the micro-assembly of the galaxy (the maximum officially registered size is 21 mm), it is ideally suited for shrimpers and nano-aquariums. True, her life expectancy is short, about 2 years. An aquarium of 30 liters and better is more, will be ideal even for a flock of these fish.

In large aquariums, you will see interesting behavior within a large flock, but non-dominant males should have shelter. It is necessary to contain a micro-collection of galaxies in a flock, preferably from 20 pieces.

In order for the aquarium to resemble the galaxy as a natural reservoir, it must be densely planted with plants. If it is empty, then the fish will become fearful, pale and will spend most of the time in shelters.

If you plan to breed in the future with a micro-feeder, it is best to keep it without neighbors, including shrimps and snails, so that they can spawn in the same aquarium. If in the general aquarium, the same small fish will be good neighbors, for example, cardinals or wedge-spotted rasbor, neons.

As for water parameters, aquarists from around the world report that they contain galaxies in different conditions, and they even spawn. So the parameters can be very different, the main thing is that the water would be clean, there were regular changes to remove ammonia and nitrates and of course to avoid extremes. It would be ideal if the pH in the aquarium is about 7, and the hardness is average, but I repeat, it is better to focus on clean water.

The filter is sufficiently internal, and the lighting can be bright, as it is needed for plants, and the microassemblies are accustomed to the bright sun.

The temperature of the water in the habitat of the micro-assembly of the galaxy is not typical for the tropics. It varies greatly throughout the year, depending on the season. As people say there have been, the weather ranges from “mild and pleasant” in the summer to “cold, wet and disgusting” during the rainy season.

In general, the temperature for the content of the micro-assembly of the galaxy can vary between 20-26 ° C, but better downwards.

As for compatibility with other fish, most often they are kept separately. The fish seems to be made for small, nano-aquariums, where there is no room for other fish. If you want to keep them with someone else, then of course the ideal will be small, peaceful fish.

These can be: danios rerio, wedge pickling, guppy, guppy endler, cherry barbs, and many others.

On the Internet, you can find pictures where large flocks of micro galaxies live together. Unfortunately, the behavior in a large group for them is not too typical, usually the content in the pack reduces aggressiveness. They stick together, but galaxy cannot be called a galaxy.

Males spend most of their time caring for females and fighting with rivals. These fights rather resemble ritual dances in a circle, and usually do not end with injuries if the weak male can take cover.

However, the dominant male can be very cruel for such a small fish, and if the enemy has nowhere to run, the galactic small teeth will cause considerable damage.

In small aquariums, weak males are often beaten to death. Several aquarists, who kept the microassembly of galaxies in very small volumes, reported that in a short time the dominant male killed all opponents until he remained. In large aquariums, one can see dangling fins in all males except one.

That is why an aquarium of 50 or even 100 liters is recommended for these small fish. Well, or contain one male and many females.

Micro-collection galaxy – a small aquarium fish

With minimal skills and knowledge in aquarism, it’s easy to breed galaxy fish. These pets begin to spawn at the age of three months.

In the spawning galaxies can be deposited in pairs or in a group, pre-dividing females and males for several days.

This will give more caviar afterwards. Spawning with necessarily growing in it greens and moss, where there will be caviar, you need a small amount. It is also necessary to monitor the water characteristics:

  • maintain the temperature at 24-25 ° C;
  • pH is in the range of 6.5-7.5.

In order to preserve the offspring of galaxies, it is imperative to take care that snails do not crawl into the tank, which are happy to swallow the fry of Burmese fish.

Caviar samochka microassembly portions portions of 2-3 times weekly in an amount of from 20 to 50 eggs. The size of the eggs is 0.7-0.9 mm in diameter.

After 3 days after spawning, larvae appear from the roe, and after 2 days they become larvae that can swim and feed on their own.

Microscopic fry Celestichthys margaritatus during the day live in close to the surface layers of water, and at night, attached to the plants or the walls of the reservoir, hang motionless. The first food for the young of the galaxy is:

If the process of growing fry is normal, then at the age of one and a half months the galaxies reach the size of a centimeter and a half, and at three months of age they are already adults, having an appropriate size of 1.5-2 cm. For half a year the Microrasbora sp. “Galaxy” get their unique color.

It is to the galaxies that the Russian proverb about the small valve, which is of great value, fully applies. Beautiful, bright, active fish, once spread from the Burmese alpine pond around the world, can bring a lot of joy and aesthetic pleasure to their owners.

A picturesque flock of micro-sampling galaxy will decorate any aquarium, video is proof of that:

A microassembly galaxy, danio margaritatus, or nano-fish is a fish belonging to the carp family. Natural habitat – fresh shallow waters of Myanmar with dense vegetation, in the same country it is listed in the Red Book as a rare species. It was discovered relatively recently, in 2006.

Among the tinned farmland of rice fields at a depth of 30 cm small fish swims.

When aquarium fish lovers first saw it in photos, they suggested that the notorious yellow blotches on the body were the work of the Photoshop wizard. It turned out that the fish is quite real, breeding and maintenance of which is possible for everyone who decides to buy it.

In 2007, scientist Tyson R. Roberts determined that microassemblies are close to danios.

The content of danios margaritatus is possible in a mini-aquarium, shrimp, or in an aquarium with a volume of 300 liters or more. They are small and shy, in order to avoid stress, it is recommended to plant many plants on the bottom and construct other shelters. Water with a rapid flow is not suitable, like calm water.

Aeration with filtration is a prerequisite for maintaining the quality of the aquatic environment.

Look at the flock of danio margaritatus in the aquarium.

Suitable water parameters: 20-28 ° C, pH 6.5-7.5 pH, dH average. Live danios no more than two years.

Aquariums of 30 liters are suitable even for schools of fish. Like many small fish, micro-assemblies feel comfortable in the company of their neighbors, preferably 20 individuals in one flock.

There should be enough shelters in the tank so that the fishes that are weak in nature can hide from more active relatives in time. In case of a fright, the fish becomes faded.

Keep them better in a separate aquarium, even without small fish and shrimp. If it is not possible to purchase a separate space, settle them with neons, cardinals, cherry barbs.

Reproduction of microassembly most often occurs in the same aquarium, where they live permanently.

They spawn at medium water parameters, but fish breeding specialists advise to maintain acceptable water purity. Install an internal filter, acceptable bright lighting, as in nature danios accustomed to the sun, and aquatic plants will grow better.

Like all danios, microassemblies eat almost everything that is sold in stores. Suitable specialized food for small fish.

The diet includes small insects, algae, zooplankton. Live and frozen food (tubule, koretra, artemia, bloodworm) is a delicacy.

The feed should be small so that the fish can capture it with their small mouth.

Micro-dwelling live together, but there are dominant strong males, who periodically pursue and attack weaker males. Breeding of such fish is simple, but such incidents can occur. For example, if a weak male does not have time to hide, he will suffer.

Traumatic cases occur rarely, but there have been deaths when small males, not finding shelter, were heavily clogged. It is recommended to keep one male and many females, this simplifies breeding.

Look at the close-up micro-assembly.

Microtreatment Care and maintenance in an aquarium

The size of the aquarium and the number of fish: the microscopic size of the fish (the officially registered maximum body length is 2.1 cm) allows it to feel at ease in nano-aquariums and shrimps.

The microassembly galaxy in nature inhabits large water, so aquariums should be considered from 30 liters or more. It is interesting to watch fish in large aquariums and study its behavior inside a large “family”.

But in this case, not the strongest males should have a special recreation area – shelter.

The whole aquarium should be thickly planted with aquatic plants so that the fish resemble a reservoir in their natural habitat. This is an important point, as the emptiness in the aquarium makes the micro-assembly of the galaxy very fearful and it will hide more in its refuge.

Water hardness: The microscopic galaxy is not particularly important water feature, its hardness or softness. So say aquarists containing this breed at home.

It spawns well in all conditions, but the water should always be extremely clean. It must be constantly changed so that there is no disastrous ammonia and nitrates, but there is no need for extremes either.

Ideal conditions: average water hardness with index 7. To maintain cleanliness, an internal filter is placed. And they make a very bright light: plants produce oxygen, and the fish feels good.

Water temperature: under natural conditions, the temperature of water in the habitats of the micro-assemblies of the galaxy is unusual for the tropical belt, as it fluctuates constantly throughout the year.

micro-galaxy photo

It all depends on the season: when it rains, it becomes very wet, slushy and cold; when hot summer reigns, the water is pleasant and moderately warm. Based on this, the ideal water temperature for “pearl” fish ranges from 20 to 26 ° C.

But she feels better in a colder environment.

SPRING OR REPLACEMENT

With minimal skills and knowledge in aquarism, it’s easy to breed galaxy fish. These pets begin to spawn at the age of three months.

In the spawning galaxies can be deposited in pairs or in a group, pre-dividing females and males for several days.

This will give more caviar afterwards. Spawning with necessarily growing in it greens and moss, where there will be caviar, you need a small amount. It is also necessary to monitor the water characteristics:

  • maintain the temperature at 24-25 ° C;
  • pH is in the range of 6.5-7.5.

Fish-producers can be kept in a spawning tank, catching and replanting their fry in a timely manner (adults of Microrasbora sp. “Galaxy” often eat them). However, with sufficient and timely feeding of Burmese babies with live food, this threat can be minimized.

Growing fry: When hatching fry Microrasbora sp. Galaxy very small – 3-4 mm. During the day they swim in the upper and middle layers of the aquarium, and at night they attach themselves to the glass panes and plants in the lower part of the aquarium and hang like that until the morning.

Starter feed is ciliates or rotifers, a little later – Artemia. With normal growth, fry in one and a half months reach a size of 1-1.2 centimeters, in three months their size is already 1.5-2.0 cm.

Coloring starts at 2 months, and the full color of the fish reaches 5-6 months.

COMPATIBILITY

Compatibility: Galaxies are very peaceful fish, they can be kept both in the species and in the general aquarium with any medium-sized non-aggressive fish species. It is noticed that living in a small species aquarium, the galaxies stick to the middle and bottom layers of water, and also behave extremely fearfully, hiding all the time in the thickets of plants. more comfortable, do not hide, swim mostly in the middle and upper levels of the aquarium and lead a more active lifestyle. Danio margaritatus behavior is very interesting.

Between the dominant males, differing in the brightest color, there is a rivalry, but it never comes to real fights. They also chase females and other males, but everything goes without injury.

DESCRIPTIONHabitat: It lives in small, shallow (up to 1 m in depth) lakes of Myanmar densely overgrown with vegetation. Description: The fish are very small, their size usually does not exceed 2 cm (maximum 3 cm). Very bright, unusual fish. The main color of the body is gray-black with numerous bright spots and a yellowish belly.

Males have black fins with bright red stripes and patterns.

The females are paler and smaller than the males, with more convex bellies, the pelvic fins are practically not painted. It should be noted that in consequence of such a small size, the full beauty of margaritat can only be assessed by close examination.

From afar, their wonderful colors are not visible and the fish seem to be plain and gray. Life expectancy: about two years.

In different sources the Burmese pond baby is called differently:

  • Microrasbora sp. Galaxy;
  • Celestichthys margaritatus;
  • Heavenly Pearl Danio;
  • Fireworks – Danio;
  • Galaxy.

Everything is explained simply. At first, experts found it difficult to attribute it to any kind, since it was not yet described by anyone.

The scientific description of the fish happened simultaneously with its total catch from the place of origin – the Burmese ponds. It was decided to give her the name Celestichthys margaritatus, which is translated from Latin literally “Heavenly fish, decorated with pearls.”

Nowadays, in the west, the underwater pet is called the celestial pearl danio or danio, the celestial pearl, and sometimes fireworks – danio. Moreover, to be honest, these fish have nothing to do with danios.

In Russia, Celestichthys margaritatus has become popularly called just a galaxy.

The galaxy needs proper care, otherwise it may undergo some diseases:

  1. Water must always be clean in an aquarium, otherwise it may become infected with bacterial infections.
  2. Do not overfeed the galaxy, as it has a tendency to obesity.
  3. Such a disease as putoplasma is difficult to recognize, especially during the spawning period. The fish does not change the color of the body, but the belly becomes thicker.
    The disease progresses over the course of two weeks: the eyes bulge harder and harder, then fall out in turn. Blind, the fish can not eat and die from exhaustion.
    The cause of the disease is poor water quality. Treatment consists of a partial replacement of water every two days.
    How the fish looks like during the illness can be seen in the photos.
  4. It is important to maintain temperature. If the water is below 20 – 21 degrees, the fish can get fungal diseases. In this case, they must be placed in old water and raise its temperature to 28 – 30 degrees. Then you can spend a few baths from a solution of potassium permanganate, it should be pale pink. If these measures are observed, the symptoms of the disease will disappear in 3 days.
  5. Fish are susceptible to oodinia. For treatment used bitsillin-5. As a preventive measure, salt can be added to an aquarium with a large number of fry – 1 spoon per 10 liters of water.
  6. It is necessary to monitor the chemical composition of water. With a sharp change may appear shock, which leads to death.

About the main diseases, treatment and preventive measures can be found in the video.

Micro-collection galaxy is a small beautiful fish, which has recently become popular among aquarium lovers.

This view was opened a few weeks before the first reports about it. Found it in Burma Southeast Asia in one of the small lakes.

This area was little chosen by Europeans, and in the future became the discovery of several more species of fish.

In the video you can find out details about the origin of the fish.

Microassembly galaxy, rassom galaxy: breeding

The microassembly galaxy belongs to the carp family. In the wild, they are found in small, heavily overgrown lakes in Myanmar.

A micro-collection is a rather small fish (no more than 2 cm) with a very defiant appearance.

The primary colors in her color are gray – black, with lots of spots and a yellow belly. The males have pronounced black fins with red stripes.

Females are slightly smaller than males in size and more dull colored.
