Fish anabas (crawler): appearance, behavior, life expectancy, water parameters, compatibility, photo, reproduction

There are aquarium fish, surprising appearance or lifestyle. Anabas fish from the labyrinth family differs from many inhabitants of an aquarium by its structure and habits.

It is also called the slider fish.

The creeper (Anabas testudineus) lives in the waters of Southeast Asia, the water for anabass can be temporary and permanent. The fish travels over land and crawls through the trees, capable of overcoming up to 100 m per hour. Dispenses water up to 48 hours.

Such survival is provided by a labyrinth respiratory organ located above the gill arches and allowing the animal to breathe air. Anabasov also eaten.

Anabas grows up to 25 cm in nature, and an aquarium – up to 16 cm. The body is elongated. Large scales beige, greenish or gray-brown.

The back is painted darker, the belly is yellowish. Strips are located on the sides.

On the large head there are large amber eyes. Powerful fins of a reddish shade.

There are spines on the tail of the fish and in the area of the gills, which allow the ram to move on uneven surfaces.

During the day, the slider fish rests in shelters, and at night it goes hunting. The predator is aggressive, but shy.

Anabas lives in captivity no more than 5 years.

The predator is unpretentious in keeping and breeding. Suitable for beginners.

It will take an aquarium of 100 liters with a lid. Leave a space of at least 10 cm between the surface of the water and the cover.

Place snags and stones. Arranging a land island in an aquarium will better recreate its natural habitat.

Water temperature20–30 degrees
Rigidity2–20 dGh
Acidity6–8 pH

Anabases come from reservoirs with slow and moderate currents, so choose a filter that does not create strong water movement. Lightly salted water is allowed.

Replace 15–20% of water with clean water with the same parameters weekly. Aeration for labyrinths is optional.

In the anabas aquarium should be areas with dense vegetation. Place floating and rooting plants that survive in moderate light:

  • vallisneria;
  • bakopu;
  • cryptocoryne;
  • java moss;
  • duckweed.
  • Place dark sand or pebbles on the bottom. Stones should not be sharp.

    If the primer has been painted, make sure the paint is harmless to fish. Clean the soil with a siphon every 7–10 days.

    The crawler fish is comfortable with moderate ambient lighting.

    In the diet of the predator meat food predominates:

  • small fish;
  • minced raw beef;
  • pipemaker;
  • shrimp;
  • tadpoles;
  • earthworms;
  • mussels
  • Serve greens and feed with spirulina as a plant food. Feed the rams once a day.

    Treat live food in methylene blue solution to prevent parasites from entering the aquarium.

    Sliders are suitable for single or pair content. Get young anabassov, as it is easier for them to adapt to their neighbors.

    Anabas maintenance with large cichlids is allowed. Small inhabitants of the reservoir anabasy eat.

    And also refrain from keeping the sliders with slow fish. Populate different types of fish in a large aquarium with a large number of shelters.

    Sexual maturity comes in 1.5 years. It is possible to distinguish a male from a female by a wider head, a slender abdomen and a less intense color. Water spawning parameters:

    Temperature26–30 degrees
    Rigidityup to 10 dGh
    Acidity6.5–7.5 pH

    You can push the labyrinth to spawn by changing the water 2 times a week. The water level is about 30 cm. The optimal volume for a spawn is 200 l. Spawning occurs at the ground or in the middle layer of water.

    The female sweeps 2.5–5 thousand eggs. Parents do not protect offspring, but do not eat it.

    Incubation time 24 hours. After 2 days, start feeding the fry:

  • rotifers;
  • Artemia;
  • living dust.
  • Kolumanriozu. A vatoobrazny bloom appears on the body, the fins are tightly pressed, the fish sways for a long time in one place and becomes lethargic. Occurs in an overpopulated aquarium. Accompany the treatment with a smooth decrease in water hardness and daily fluid changes. To reduce the stiffness by adding melted or boiled water. Treat your fish with methylene blue or phenoxyethanol.
  • Papillomatosis. Small tumors appear on the body of the fish. The treatment is not developed, sometimes the fish recover on their own.
  • Tuberculosis (mycobacteriosis). The disease is treated in the early stages of an antibiotic mixed with fish feed. Mycobacteriosis is accompanied by loss of appetite, discoloration of color and lethargy.
  • Ichthyophthyriosis The skin is covered with white dots, the fish becomes restless, loses appetite. Treat malachite greens or quinine hydrochloride, increasing the temperature of the water.
  • Conduct treatment, otsadiv sick individual. Remove the anabass from the aquarium with a plastic or glass container.

    Anabasy are rarely found in pet stores. They can be purchased under the order at a price of 700 rubles. for the individual.

    Anabas is not common in domestic ponds due to its large size, nondescript color and hostility to others. With the wrong choice of neighbors, the slider quickly injures others.

    There have been cases of eating the eyes of goldfish. Many people find an unusual way to move an animal over land.

    Anabas perfect for lovers of large predators. Fish is becoming more common not only in aquaristics, but also outside its natural range.

    Viable and voracious crawlers even began to crowd out other species of fish.
