Features of keeping and breeding aquarium fish minor

Novice aquarists often choose undemanding care fish. Among them are minor, which is also called serpas. It is popular for its simple care, but it is playful and quite mobile.

Of course, you need to take care of the minor fish. If the conditions of its maintenance worsen, then its growth slows down, the brightness of the coloration disappears, the longevity decreases, and this can also affect reproduction.

Minor or serpas fish is not difficult to care for and is suitable for keeping novice aquarists.

Minor is a fish found in the center of South America. She loves forest ponds, where the water is standing and slowly flowing.

In appearance, serpas are quite small fish. Their length is not more than five centimeters. The body is rather tall, slender and elongated, slightly compressed laterally.

The distinctive features of the minor include the dorsal fin – it is always vertical, quadrangular, it can be very elongated.

Minor fish are considered small: their body length is approximately 5 cm

A long dark stripe can be seen across the calf. Above the aquarium minor fish are olive-brown, below it is bright red.

Due to this, this fish is often called minor red. The fin with areas behind the gills may cover small dark spots. It is painted black and has a white tip or hem.

The rest of the body of the fish is covered with a saturated red color. There are no scales at the base of the tail.
Females are very easy to distinguish from males. They are less bright, but have a larger size and a swollen abdomen.

Minor serpasov have a rather peaceful disposition, usually they are kept in small flocks of at least four individuals. It is curious to observe such flocks, as they are very active and constantly move around the entire aquarium.

It’s worth getting several minors at once

Singles fish do not like to live. Over time, they can begin to behave aggressively, they will attack small fish-neighbors.

Especially unpleasant for them are sluggish voile brothers. Serpasi they can simply nibble tails with fins, but they can not fight back.

Of course, this should not be allowed, settling the minor alone with other small fish.

In other cases, for a full-fledged bevy of neighbors, mobile peaceful species of fish can become.

To avoid conflicts, they should be about the same temperament and size. For example, good compatibility is observed with barbs, danios, antsistrusami.

In general, each owner of the aquarium “neighbors” for their pets chooses according to the situation.

The most ideal conditions for an aquarium can be called “rainforest.” It is the most preferred option for minor fish.

Content in such conditions will be held without any problems. In preparing the aquarium, the following recommendations are followed:

  1. Each fish requires ten liters of water. This volume is considered optimal. A lid is placed on top – this is a mandatory condition, as the fish are distinguished by jumping ability.
  2. In the aquarium should be placed abundant thickets, while there should be room for swimming. Minor more like middle and lower layers. Plants with roots are usually planted in the ground, floating leave on the surface of the water. Usually give preference to Javanese moss, Echinodorus, Thai fern.

Aquarium is selected in the calculation that one minor fish accounts for 10 liters of water

  1. The average water temperature should be +25 ° C. The fish tolerate its slight decrease. Acidity should be in the range of 6.5-7, rigidity on average 4-8.
  2. Lighting pick medium intensity.
  3. The soil is used in dark color – gravel, sand. Additionally, you can decorate the pond with snags, they also serve as a shelter for fish. Water inhabitants will always be able to relax after them.
  4. Aerator and filter are required. Substitution can be done every week, adding a fifth of the liquid. Minor live well in peat water.

In terms of nutrition, these small fish are not capricious. You just need to follow simple recommendations on the choice of feed:

  1. Size must be suitable. Too large pieces of food small fish simply can not capture.
  2. Food must be balanced. Feed usually alternate. The condition of the aquarium pets directly depends on this.
  3. In nature, serpas feed on small aquatic animals, insects from the surface. In captivity, you can use both live food (crustaceans, bloodworms, small insects), and dry (special flakes, pellets). Vegetable food (dandelions, spinach, peristomistnik) is also suitable.

The minors eat both animal and plant food,

Reproduction must begin with the preparation of spawning. To do this, use a small capacity of not more than twenty liters.

They put a separator net on the bottom – it will protect future eggs from their parents, who simply can eat them.

Lighting should be diffused and dim. They manage without soil, but plants should be used, especially small-leaved, long-stemmed varieties.

You can take a small bush of Javanese moss or fern.

For breeding minors in the aquarium should be small-leaved plants.

Water is poured in a layer no more than fifteen centimeters. At the same time for breeding minors take water that meets the following requirements:

  • temperature in the range of 25-28 degrees;
  • acidity – up to 7;
  • stiffness – no more than 15.

Suitable as peeled water and fresh. The first option can be prepared independently.

To do this, a concentrated decoction of peat is poured into distilled water, allowed to stand for one or two weeks.

Before spawning, males and females are kept separately and richly fed.

For breeding select a pair of fish or even a small group. A week before the intended event, it is usually practiced to separate the sexes with abundant feeding.

In the evening, the fish are placed in spawning. Spawning can occur in the morning or in a few days. Next, the fish are deposited, and the container with caviar is supplied with weak aeration.

In addition, it must necessarily be darkened.

If spawning does not occur within five days, then the whole period of the fish is not fed. If nothing has happened, then the minors need to run back into the aquarium and try to repeat the procedure after a couple of weeks or a month.
