Description of the Panamanian Sturisom and its maintenance at home

These fish can be found in the water bodies of Central and South America, saturated with oxygen. Sturisom Panamanian lives on the territory of Ecuador, Colombia.

Sturisom Panamanian (lat. Sturisoma Panamense) is distinguished by an elongated body, flattened from above and below. Other features of the appearance are as follows:

  3. Large fins. The dorsal is crescent-shaped, the caudal is fork-like, equipped with thread-like tips.

The female of the Panamanian Sturisom can eat her own fry, so they need to be seated.

The color of the body and fins is reddish-yellow. From the eyes up to the back fin there is a dark brown border, the upper zone of which moves to the back area. The belly is silvery white, covered with yellow-brown spots.

On the rays of the fins there are spots of dark brown color. Females are less bright in color. They have a narrower and tapered head.

The male has cheeks with thick setae from 1 to 6 mm long. They are absent from females.

The size of individuals living in an aquarium can reach 18 cm, under natural conditions – 26 cm. Sexual maturity is noted at 18 months.
