Content and breeding Werner’s iriaterina

There are many species of unusual fish that are suitable for keeping in an aquarium. Iriaterina Werner (lat.

Iriatherina werneri) has an attractive color and original body shape. At the same time, it is quite small in size – no more than 5 cm.

Under stress, a fish may look pale, but under home conditions its beauty is maximally revealed.

Under stress, Iriaterina Verneri may look pale.

Natural habitat of small fish – Indonesia, northern part of Australia and the island of New Guinea. As for the latter, iriaterin is common in the river basin of the Fly River and Merauke. Sometimes fish can swim up to the mouth of the river up to 500 km.

In Australia, they prefer swampy areas. Under natural conditions, they can often be seen in reservoirs with a small current, overgrown with plants, and also in marshy areas.

Young individuals form large flocks. They are located near snags and fast-growing grass. Males join a group of females to find a mate.

In the content of Werner’s iriaterina, the right diet plays a key role. The basis of fish nutrition is:

  • phytoplankton;
  • insects;
  • vegetable feed;
  • diatoms.

In appearance, it is a small fish, whose body length is no more than 5 cm. In fact, it is difficult to describe any common features, since the appearance is largely determined by living conditions, in particular, the presence of good lighting and nutrient medium. Life expectancy under good conditions in this species varies from 3 to 4 years.

Even a position in a flock can directly influence how long an individual lives.

Iriaterina Werner as a whole finds a common language with other fishes. But there are conditions that are mandatory. It is important to note that:

  1. These creatures are quite sensitive to the properties of water, do not tolerate a sharp change in its parameters. When buying fish, this is the most difficult, since iriaterin is difficult to get used to a new aquarium, and the process of its adaptation can take a long time.
  2. These are rather sluggish and timid creatures that eat slowly. If they are contained in the general aquarium, it is necessary to constantly monitor that they are provided with a sufficient amount of food.

Iriaterines are omnivores, but prefer certain foods. They like to eat fruits, algae, plankton, insects that have fallen into the water.

When kept at home, they can be fed with live food and crushed flakes. In the first case, suitable frozen daphnia and artemia. If you offer too large feed, it will lead to starvation of individuals.

Food is offered in small portions two to three times a day. Be sure to ensure that the fish have time to eat, if they are kept together with other animals in the aquarium.

The iriaterines have a small size, which, however, does not prevent them from displaying significant activity. They need a tightly closed aquarium of 60 liters. A lid is required in order to avoid jumping out.

You will need a good filter, regular cleaning of the soil and its replacement.

Changes in acidity and the accumulation of ammonia can lead to irreparable consequences. Iriaterina should be kept in groups of 5 at least. It is better if individuals will be from 10 and more.

Each male should have two females.

Iriaterina Verneri are quite sensitive to the properties of water, they do not tolerate a sharp change in its parameters.

Iriaterin need aquariums, in which the environment most resembles the natural. It will take a reservoir in which the plants grow tightly.

The ground should be dark. Also, dim lighting is required.

Miniature fish require enough space for swimming. Most of them do not like a strong current.

Water should supply them with enough oxygen. Aeration in this regard is the preferred option.

The temperature of the water should be kept in the range of + 23−28 ° C, pH – in the range of 5.5 / 7.5.

Pisces are pretty peaceful creatures. and do not touch anyone. However, they regularly suffer themselves.

Due to their miniature size and cautious behavior, they are threatened with malnutrition. Iriaterina feels good in the company of other irises, if they are not of impressive size or the aquarium is not too small for them.

You should not keep them together with the fish, which regularly cut off the fins to their neighbors. It will also be good to put shrimps in the tank with them.

The Iriaterines chase each other regularly. Males have luxurious fins and regularly show their own coloring. If there are representatives of both sexes in the pack, the males have a brighter color.

In order to prevent fights among individuals, it is better to keep one male for the whole pack.

The appearance of the male is rather classic., therefore, you can easily distinguish it. It has longer fins, which are distinguished by a bright color.

Breeding iriaterines is not difficult, but it is still difficult to raise fry.

Breeding requires that the water in the aquarium is sour and soft. Water should also have a temperature of +26 ° C or more. For breeding Werner’s iriaterina, a couple of fish are deposited and begin to feed vigorously.

For this use live food.

In the aquarium spread Javanesex and other small leaves. Spawning continues for several days.

Moss will need to be removed as soon as caviar appears. Feed for young animals are the simplest organisms (for example, infusoria).

Also fish need egg yolk.

An aquarium looks unattractive if there are no plants in it. The Bucephalandras relatively recently began to gain popularity.

This plant in natural conditions lives on the island of Borneo and prefers swamplands. It has rhizome and leaves.

Bucephalandra is rarely used as a background object, as it is characterized by good decorative qualities. There are a huge number of varieties of this plant, differing in size and shape of growth.
