Coliseum striped (Colisa fasciata)
The coliza of the Belontev family is striped with a variety of colors, body sizes and head shape, which is associated with the vast territories inhabited by the fish in nature.
Habitat: homeland – Pakistan, India, Nepal, Myanmar, Burma, Thailand. They mainly live in the Brahmaputra and Ganges rivers, their lower and middle currents, as well as the Irrawaddy river.
There are also in other rivers, mainly slow-flowing, canals, ponds, lakes, less often in coastal salt waters.
Description: the oval, slightly elongated body resembles an ellipse in shape and slightly flattened laterally. Mouth with very thick lips.
The older the fish, the thicker her upper lip.
The filiform ventral fins are elongated, in them are located the organs of taste and touch. The dorsal and anal fins of the base are elongated, and there is an edging along the edge.
The color of the males varies from reddish to brown. On the sides oblique stripes of turquoise color.

Below on the gill cover is a turquoise shiny speck.
It has a labyrinth with which it receives atmospheric air.
Females are smaller – up to 8 cm, males can reach 10 cm in length. There is a difference in the shape of the dorsal fin, which is pointed in males, and in females more rounded.
The shape of the body of the fish and its color depends on the region in which it was caught.
Arrangement and parameters of the aquarium: for a colise group, a capacity of 150 liters is required, always with a cover glass that protects the surface air from overcooling. Feel comfortable in the amount of 6-10 individuals.
The females should prevail in the group.
Plants are planted around the perimeter of the aquarium, and the free space left for swimming should be attracted by floating plants, such as Richie. Plant thickets are created with the help of long-stemmed plants with dissected leaves – hygrophilous, limnofily.
Aggression is able to show only in the spawning period, at the rest of the time Coliseum striped (Colisa fasciata) quite shy and in need of shelters made of snags, flat stones and plants.
Water parameters: 24-27 ° C, pH 6-7.5, dH 5-15.
Water changes are carried out on a quarter of a weekly basis. Filtration with aeration is not needed.
Nutrition: take both live and dry food. Herbal supplements, such as wolfia, will be helpful.
Reproduction: for breeding a striped colise, you will need a spawning device measuring 40 * 60 cm, filled with water by 10-15 cm. The temperature gradually rises by several degrees, and the acidity level is brought to 4-7 by adding 1/3 of distilled water.
Soil is not required, but high plants are needed, such as cabomba, and floating, for example, winged ferns.
Producers a week before spawning are contained in separate containers. Spawning can be a pair, but in this case there is a risk that the male will score a female not ready for spawning.
For the sake of its safety and efficient spawning, several females with one male are placed in the aquarium, which allows it to disperse its attention.
The male builds a foamy nest only in the twilight, therefore the spawning shade. The female portions of 100-1000 eggs, then deposited.
The male, caring for offspring, adds air bubbles to the nest and returns the dropped eggs to the place.
Incubation lasts 1-2 days. After 3-5 days, the young fry in search of food: ciliates and rotifers.
At this stage, the male is also removed, and the water level is reduced to 3 cm. As the fish grows, the amount of water in the spawn increases.
Due to the uneven growth, fry need to be sorted, which prevents cannibalism. At 2 months of age, the young fish that are equal in height can be launched into one aquarium.
Capable of breeding reaching 10 months.
Coliseum striped (Colisa fasciata) lives 5-10 years.
