Clown fish in an aquarium (amphiprion percula, percula): where it lives, the content in the aquarium, photo

Clown fish is gaining popularity among modern aquarists because of their recognizability and bright color. In the aquarium, the fish feels good and even reproduces.

The clown is known by the name of amphiprion, belongs to the family center.

Amphyprion lives in reefs and lagoons of the Pacific and Indian Ocean. Natural house for clown fish are sea anemones (anemone) – poisonous coral polyps. A symbiosis is maintained in amphiprion and anemone: anemone protect clowns from predators, and fish clean the polyp from food debris and take care of it.

Amphipony is also appreciated for its ability to make sounds that resemble clicks.

The average size of a clown fish is 9 cm. The body is oval, the fins are rounded. In the dorsal fin 14–17 rays, there is an opening in the middle, which creates the appearance of two dorsal fins.

The colors typical for amphiprion are dark blue, orange, white, black, brown. Color depends on the type and color variations. The iris of the eye is orange, the head is convex.

There is a dark rim on the fins.

Brave among clown fish are females, they are larger in size. Males are usually unable to defend themselves, that is, matriarchy reigns in them. # fish # fisherman

In nature, clowns are peace-loving fish, but in aquarium conditions they show aggression. In captivity, amphiprions are territorial, jealously guarding their shelter.

Aggression in clowns provoke a single content or lack of food in the aquarium. Fish change their sex, adjusting to the conditions of the environment.

All newborn clowns are male. In the absence or death of the female, as well as when kept alone, the fish change their sex to female.

The average life expectancy of marine animals is 10 years. In captivity, clown fish live 15–20 years with proper maintenance.

About 30 species of clowns are suitable for keeping in an aquarium. All these species live in sea anemone.

Peaceful view. Body color is dark, there are two white stripes.

Lower fins are yellow. The average size of males is 7 cm, females – 11–12 cm.

Most often, fish of the species Amphiprion percula are bred artificially. The predominant color is orange, on the body there are three white stripes, outlined in black. On fins dark edging.

Outwardly, the amphiprions of the Ocellaris and the Percula are poorly distinguishable: on the dorsal fin, the Ocellaris of 10–11 rays, in Amphiprion percula – 9–10.

The head is shaped like a frog. Body length up to 11 cm.

The main color is rich orange. The black outlines of white stripes are narrower than those of other species.

There is a dark edging around the eyes.

The maximum size of a fish is 15 cm. Brown and yellow colors are found in color.

As they grow older, the color of the clowns darkens.

Also known as tomato amphiprion. The length of the fish is up to 13 cm. There is a white stripe on the red body.

The sides of adult fish are maroon.

Another name: pink clown. Color varies from pink to orange.

A white stripe runs along the whole body along the back. The fish grows up to 12 cm.

The main color is black, there are three wide white stripes. The maximum size is 13 cm.

The fish reach a length of 11 cm. The color is brownish-orange, the fins are dark, and there is a light vertical line on the nape.

There are two subspecies of two-lane amphipriones: with a yellow or four-black color. Particularly difficult to look to come from the Red Sea.

The maximum size of the fish is 14 cm.

A set of colors: orange, black and white. The strips are shortened, cover up to a quarter of the body, do not reach the abdomen.

Artificially derived color forms of fish:

  • Caramel ozellaris. The fish is caramel brown, the edges of the fins are black. There are three characteristic bands.
  • Snowflake. The maximum size of the fish is 8 cm. There are 3 white stripes on the orange body. The larger the white blotches, the more valuable the fish.
  • Premium Snowflake. Two light stripes are connected into one. White color prevails over orange.
  • Black snowflake. Fish black with wide white stripes.
  • Midnight ocellaris. The muzzle is orange, and the body is dark brown or black.
  • Naked ozellaris. Bands are missing. Clown orange with a thin black border on the fins.
  • Black ice. The light strip on the dorsal fin is wider, the white stripes are edged with black. The color is orange, the fins are black.
  • Dominoes. On a black body there is a white blotch in the area of gill covers.
  • False-striped black extreme. The body is black, the first light band in the head is full, the rest are mild.
  • Amphiprion is unpretentious in comparison with other reef fish. It will require salt water and a special diet.

    With a pair of contents need an aquarium from 50 liters. When kept with sea anemone, the volume of the aquarium should be at least 200 liters.

    For a comfortable existence are required shelters:

    Water temperature25–27 degrees
    Stiffness (carbonate)12–18 dKN
    Water movementweak
    Salinityup to 34.5 g per liter of water

    In a medium-sized aquarium, change weekly to 10% water for fresh with similar parameters. In bulk tanks, water changes can be performed less frequently – up to 25% every two weeks.

    Do not allow a sharp change in water parameters. To salt the water, use sea salt. Mix the salt with fresh water in the right proportions.

    For a saltwater aquarium, tap water can be used.

    Put algae in a clown fish tank:

    Among plants, corals look good, and anemones recreate a natural habitat for clown fish. Suitable actinium species:

  • magnificent sea;
  • reddish
  • carpet giant;
  • bubbly;
  • carpet actinia mertens.
  • Cover the bottom with coral sand up to 5 mm in diameter with a layer of at least 7 cm. Clean the soil weekly.

    A set of equipment and accessories for marine aquarium:

  • biological filter;
  • aerator;
  • thermometer;
  • heater.
  • Make sure that the filter does not create a powerful flow of water. In hot weather, cool the water with a cooler or bottles of frozen water.

    Equip a tank with fish and sea anemone with good lighting. Optimal use of LEDs – they have low heat dissipation and high performance. Light day should be no more than 12 hours.

    Do not allow sunlight on the aquarium glass.

    Clowns – omnivorous fish, happy to eat:

  • artemia;
  • dry food for reef fish;
  • worms;
  • spawn;
  • seaweed;
  • shredded shrimp;
  • spirulina;
  • meat of octopus and squid;
  • fish fillet.
  • Provide a varied diet. Feed pets 2-3 times a day in small portions, which they manage to eat in a couple of minutes.

    In the process of cleaning anemones, the fish finds food in the tentacles of the invertebrate. Do not overfeed clowns.

    Frequent intraspecific clashes, therefore, wishing to settle several clowns in one aquarium, acquire a volume reservoir and populate young amphipyones. Clowns are harmless for snails, crabs and corals, compatible with other marine life:

  • blennius;
  • cardinals;
  • fish butterflies;
  • goby;
  • chromis.

    It is not allowed to keep clown fish with predators and aggressive species:

  • acne;
  • groupers;
  • lionfish;
  • balistami.
  • Clown fish breed in the aquarium all year round. It is necessary to prepare spawning with shelters.

    It is possible to distinguish a male from a female by size. Females are 2–3 cm larger than males.

    Spawning occurs in the evening. In their natural habitat, clowns spawn in the moonlight. Fish spawn for a couple of hours under anemone, on clay pots or corals.

    Masonry contains up to 1500 eggs and incubated for up to 10 days. The male tenderly protects the eggs and fan them with fins.

    Appeared fry independently swim and eat. Feed the young with chopped adult food. The pattern on the body of the fry appears after the first week of life.

    When kept with other marine species, drop off the fry to save offspring.

    Amphiphriones have strong immunity. Diseases appear in poor quality or unsuitable for the parameters of water. Characteristic of the type of disease:

  • Brooklynosis (marine bone disease). Accompanied by white spots on the body, lethargy. It is treated with copper sulfate at a concentration of 1.5 mg per liter of water or 0.04 mg of malachite greens per liter of water.
  • Oodiniosis. Amphiprion is covered with white rash, the scales exfoliate, fins are glued together. It is treated with blue vitriol.
  • Cryptocarinosis is a common disease in saltwater aquariums. On external signs it reminds ichthyophthiriosis – white dots appear on the body of the affected individual. It is treated by reducing the salt concentration in water with the addition of formalin or copper sulfate.
  • Amylodinosis. This disease is easily confused with the previous one due to similar manifestations. Specialty medicines are available.
  • Aquarists enjoy the interesting behavior of clown fish. Some, however, have problems with clowns accustoming to actinia and sharing their aquarium neighbors.

    Amphiphriones cost differently depending on the type and size.

    Some fish imitate amphiprions and try to contact with sea anemone, despite the fact that it is not inherent in them by nature. This interesting behavior was observed in angelfish and skates.
