Chromis handsome: bright personality or a whim of nature?

Aquarists who prefer fish with a serious character and powerful temperament can make a friendship with the cichlid chromis handsome – beautiful, attractive individual. If intelligence is possible in fish, then it is directly related to it.

Chromis handsome man fully justifies its name. Red-brown body with luminescent blue spots elegantly and flawlessly. However, in his 15 cm you can find extraordinary shades, for example, dark olive on the back, greenish and pink – on the sides, reddish – on the abdomen.

With all this clearly visible black spot in the middle, as well as blue – in the area of the gills.

The extravagance of external beauty does not affect the character positively. For such fish as chromis, handsome handsomely are characterized by aggression, ill will, difficulty in keeping in the general aquarium, difficult selection of neighbors with whom it gets along.

The individual is curious and active. He likes to travel through labyrinths, grottoes, hide in vegetable thickets, watch what is happening around, waiting for the moment for prey.

If a handsome chromis is chosen as a friend, its content should be fully provided. As for all members of the cichl family, for himichromis it is necessary:

  • water temperature in the range of 22-26 ° C;
  • normal acidity (from 6.8 to 7.5);
  • the amount of water per individual is not less than 70 liters;
  • loose soil, better from large crushed stone;
  • the presence of appropriate vegetation, well fixed in the ground;
  • soft water

Feels good fish in fresh water, with good aeration, stable performance.

A healthy cichlid needs a complete feed, balanced diet. The presence of protein food is required. The meat component can be represented by pieces of beef or ground beef.

In addition, suitable tube maker, crushed earthworms. The fish itself will find and eat the fry of its fellows, as well as small adult individuals.

Along with the “meat” fish needs vegetables – suppliers of vitamins, trace elements, and other components. Chopped cucumber, zucchini, cabbage, celery – will go with a bang, but after meat or fish.

A scrupulous aquarist will apply a complex feed specifically designed for cichlids. And he will be right.

This is a balanced version with all the necessary components. Those who want to pamper their pet, can go on an independent diet, taking into account the results of their own observation of his preferences and tastes.

Chromis is gluttonous enough, and also greedy. He will eat as much as he sees food.

Therefore, to monitor the amount of food eaten is the business of the owner. Otherwise, there is a risk of digestibility or digestive diseases.

Feed should be given one (as a last resort – two) times a day. The amount is determined experimentally.

It depends on the population of the aquarium, the age of the fish, their lifestyle.

What is the relationship with other fish? Wouldn’t cohabitation harm both parties?

To avoid this, you can try to create a team of strong individuals who can stand up for themselves. Valid options are:

  • Akaras;
  • lvinogolovye tsikhly;
  • bees;
  • soma;
  • other similar cichlids.

A guarantee of a positive result is a sufficient amount of water, ensuring the proper parameters of its composition, appropriate food and vegetation.

Small fish such as guepies, neons, molines, and others are unlikely to be able to make a decent company. They will be eaten on the first joint night.

Such a neighborhood is not suitable for such slow and inhibited fish as scalar. In the best case – it is bitten fins, dented sides.

Reproduction of chromis – a process that has a lot of conventions. Breeding will succeed if the matched pair likes each other.

Given monogamy (the pair lasts for almost a lifetime), the wrongly chosen union from the beginning must be changed immediately. This will prompt the bitten fins, the ragged appearance of the fish, their inadequate behavior.

If the pair took place, this is half the battle.

The female will set aside 200-450 eggs, using, for example, smooth and clean pebbles. After two days, from the moment the eggs appear, the touching process of grooming the offspring begins. The female in the mouth carries them to a secluded place, provides feeding at the expense of the yolk sac.

Three days later, when the fry will be able to move independently, the family demonstrates demonstrative family relationships, protecting children from problems, clearly protecting the selected territory.

Feeding fry is worth naupilia artemia. This is a physiologically suitable food that contributes to the normal formation of organs and systems of fish.
