Cardinal (Tanichthys albonubes) – one of the most popular aquarium fish.
It has a bright color, small size, unpretentiousness, peacefulness. Fits perfectly into a shared aquarium with peaceful neighbors.
There are breeding forms with veil fins and some differences in coloring. Maximum size 4 cm.
It prefers twilight, thickets of small-leaved vegetation, dark ground. Preferably an elongated aquarium of 30 liters with clean water, an abundance of vegetation and proportionate peaceful neighbors.
Golden Cardinal (Tanichthys albonubes)
The place of natural habitat is the mountainous reservoirs of southern China.
A pair can be kept even in a 3-liter jar, but it is better to provide a flock of 10-15 individuals with a capacity of 30 liters of clean water.
Optimal conditions of maintenance: T = 18-25 ° C, dGH up to 18 °, pH 6-7, regular water changes for fresh ones.
Food: small live, frozen food and flocculent mixtures.
Breeding cardinals (tanichthys albonubes), who, being in the general aquarium, are constantly undernourished due to inactivity, requires special conditions.
Therefore, in the spring for 10-15 days before the intended breeding of males and females deposited in separate containers. Otsadniki, where fish are constantly fed small live food, can be three-liter jars filled with fresh settled water, which is periodically aerated, the water temperature is maintained at 22-23 °.
The family of cardinals consists of two females and one male. In order to avoid any accidents, two families are preparing for spawning.
The readiness of the fish is determined by the female, whose abdomen acquires a noticeable roundness.
Spawning for one or two families can serve as a low aquarium of 5-6 liters of water. The bottom of the vessel is covered with a layer of well-washed coarse-grained river sand, approximately 1/4 of the capacity is taken away under small-leaved plants, such as a perististole or hornberry.
The Ludwigia planted in the ground, the water fern, the hygrophil are also quite suitable.
Water for the breeding ground is preferable to prepare from the “old” and fresh (distilled) water, mixing them in equal parts, but you can use one fresh. The water temperature is not lower than the one in which the fish were prepared for spawning. Its level is small – 20-25 cm.
The lighting is moderate.
The fish placed in the spawning grounds immediately become lively, and the males begin their courtship ritual — they make elegant turns around the females, and when the water temperature reaches 25 °, the liveliness of the fish increases.
Spawning can last for two days. During this time, one female sweeps up to 30 eggs.
If you need to get a second after the first spawning, and there may be up to ten with 8-12-day breaks, the producers are again seated in different containers and heavily fed with live food. After spawning, the fish are placed in a common aquarium.
Incubation of caviar lasts from 30 to 50 hours. depending on the temperature of the water, which should not be subject to significant fluctuations.
Larvae cardinals so small that they are barely visible to the naked eye. The larval period, when these crumbs hang motionless on a particular substrate, lasts up to two days.
Floated fry feed infusoria or other starter feed.
