Botsiya marble (lohakata): content, reproduction, compatibility, care, photo

Botsiya Marble (Botia almorhae, Botia lohachata), aka Lohakata Boats, Almora Botsia, in English Pakistani loach (Pakistani loach) – freshwater aquarium fish of the loach family, belongs to the race genus.

In nature, it is distributed in the waters of the Ganges and the associated stagnant bodies of water in India and Bangladesh.

At present, there is no exact classification of baty. In the northern variety color pale.

One is a type or different – a debatable question.

It has been kept in aquariums since 1912. In Europe – since the mid 50s of the last century.

Russian aquarists known since the 2000s.

Due to the presence of a mustache, they are mistakenly attributed to catfish, although the fighting belongs to the carps form. Similar manner of sleeping vertically and on the side, digging the soil.

Lohakata differs from catfish by the presence of scales, peaceful behavior, and the absence of lungs.

The body is elongated, the abdomen is even, the back is arched. Caudal fin – forked. In an aquarium it grows up to 100–150 mm.

The head is small, pointed in front. The mouth is small, sloping down. 6 pairs of antennae on the upper and lower jaws.

Used to search for food at the bottom.

The scales are small, covered with mucus. The skin is easily scratched.

Under the eyes are hidden thorns. Flicked spikes are released at risk.

The color of the body and fins is light silver with dark gray or black patterns. Patterns are similar to repeating symbols “Yo”, for which the fish received the nickname “YoYo loach”.

Shows aggression with a single content. Therefore, the content of 3–6 fish is recommended. Hold together.

The flock is aggressive in an overpopulated aquarium. When conflicts injure each other do not cause.

Predatory instincts do not show.

When frightened, “turns pale.” Patterns on the skin become light gray.

Pretends to be dead.

Bottom fish. Cleaner picks up the drowned food. With a lack of plant food eats plants.

Loosens the ground. Digging up the roots of plants.

Eats snails, nibbling from the shell.

Moves a lot, is nocturnal, curious. During the day, he hides in dark places and shelters.

Sleeps on his side or head up.

Before the rain, it intensifies activity: in the wild, rain streams wash insects and worms into the water.

In the conditions of the aquarium lives 6-8 years.

Aquarium size, water quality, maintenance and care affect the growth and behavior of the bindweed.

For one individual, choose a capacity of 0.1 meter cubic. For three – from 0.2.

  • Water temperature is 24–28 ° С. With intensive ventilation will withstand 30 ° C.
  • Stiffness – 6–12 °.
  • Acidity – pH 6.5–7.5.

Keep the water clean: marble battles raise dregs. Water circulation with the organization of currents and filtration are required.

Biofiltration is recommended. Replace a third of the water weekly and clean the bottom of excrement. Food leftovers siphon constantly.

Wings do not feel satiety and are prone to overeating, which is fraught with obesity and diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.

Lohakata nibbles on the leaves of plants, so choose hard-leaved.

  • Anubias.
  • Cryptocoryne.
  • Congolese fern.
  • Crinum Kalamistratum.

Plant in pots, or protect plant roots with flat stones.

  • sluggish growth;
  • overgrown with algae;
  • in the shops of the road.

Consider purchasing artificial plants.

Botsiya in search of food breaks the ground. Burying, removes excess mucus from the scales. Sprinkle with small, rounded pebbles: the fish will wound the skin on sharp fragments.

Add large stones without sharp corners – will serve as a refuge.

Serve for bindweed shelters. Make a grotto with stones.

Useful snags, plastic and ceramic tubes, cups for sleeping, houses. Holes of sufficient diameter – stuck.

  • Heater with thermostat to maintain a stable water temperature, a thermometer.
  • Compressor for aeration and air supply of the internal filter. The internal compressor is silent, but you have to hide it. Combines are sold – a filter and a compressor arranged in a monoblock.
  • For aquariums with a capacity of 200 liters are calculated external filters.
  • The biofilter is designed to neutralize harmful substances dissolved in water. The main enemy of the fish – ammonia, which is formed from decaying organic matter. Threatened with nitrate poisoning. Bacteria in the filter convert ammonia to a safe composition. Purchased or made independently.
  • Siphon for cleaning the bottom.
  • Top cover: the combat can jump out.
  • Net.
  • Scraper to remove algae from the walls of the aquarium.

Lighting is standard. Calculate the parameters of the lamp using the Calculator on the Internet.

Cold and economical LED and fluorescent lamps are preferred.

Lots of lohakata are omnivores. Let’s sinking live food: bloodworm, tube maker. Do not forget about vegetables: cucumber, spinach, greens.

Otherwise the plants will suffer. Useful oatmeal. In general, the aquarium will eat everything that falls to the bottom.

If there are extra clams – run into the aquarium. This is their favorite food.

Feed late in the evening. Night is a period of activity.

Do not overfeed, remove excess food.

Gets along with all, except large predators, shy. Will sit, snapping spikes, in the shelter at the expense of food.

Avoid placing together with slow-eyed fish (cockerel, guppy), because they interfere.

In a pack they socialize, fight for dominance. But fights are not cruel.

Other fish do not pay attention.

At home, there are no confirmed breeding cases. Implemented by experts. In amateur aquariums, the female spawns and throws.

The male does not fertilize. A common case is the impossibility of marking and the death of a female.

Females are larger, belly a little rounder. Males have a slight reddening near the whiskers and edges.

The motivation for spawning – the separation of the pair, feeding plant food. When transplanting to a spawning tank, stimulating injections are made. Spawning aquarium – from 150 liters.

Water temperature – 29–32 ° С, intensive circulation and filtration. Acidity – pH 6.5–7, hardness – 4–6 °.

Labeling and fertilization occur at the surface of the water. At the end of the parents are deposited to save the eggs.

A day later, the larvae appear. After three days, begin feeding “live dust”, phytoplankton, microworms.

From the age of 10 days – add fry fortified dry food, naupliyu, daphnia.

The marble marble is not resistant to disease. Of all the common aquarium, only fighting can get sick while other fish feel normal.

Do not tolerate blue vitriol, malachite greens.

Ichthyophthyriosis (“semolina”). Defeat parasites infusoria.

Brought new inhabitants, with poor-quality food. Manifested in the form of white bumps on the scales.

Self-treat risky. Contact your ichthyopathologist.

Bacterial scratch damage. Manifested in the form of ulcers, inflammation, spots.

Treat with Sera Baktopur, Sera Baktopur direct, ectola, digital according to the attached instructions.

Diplostomatosis (helminthic cataract). Parasitic lesion of the eye by the larvae of the dygnetic flukes.

Symptoms: clouding and swelling of the eyes. It is distributed by mollusks and objects from natural reservoirs.

Contact your ichthyopathologist.

Carp rubella. Bacteriosis or viral damage.

Symptoms resemble nitrate poisoning. Perform ammonia and nitrate tests.

Red spots (hemorrhages) on the body, bug-eyed, dropsy, ulcers. It is treated with interferon from a pharmacy (1 ampoule per 30-40 liters of water) together with Sera Baktopur direct.

The biofilter will not work due to medication.

Disease prevention: any aquarium replenishment passes through 40–60 day quarantine. Quarantine aquarium of 60–80 liters with its own equipment.

The reactions of aquarists to the acquisition of lohakata are controversial. Optimists are pleased with the interesting and peace-loving behavior, the advantages of the sweeper, and the original color.

Pessimists blame the fish for aggression, eating plants and young shrimp. Eating snails is not considered a disadvantage.

Marble fighting – deft and mobile fish. Catching a net is not easy. Place at the bottom of the shelter-ring, Podkaraulte bindweed there.

Cover one side of the shelter and the other with a net.

In Russia, lohakats appeared recently. Not enough studied. There is no exact division into rocks.

There are suspicions that the behavior of fish individually. There are suspicions that trouble is a result of improper content.
