Botsiya Kubota (Botia kubotai) – content, breeding

Botsiya Kubota or Chess Botsiya (Botia kubotai) KOTTELAT 2004.

Botsiya Kubota is a beautiful mobile fish, which is still a rare inhabitant of domestic waters. This is due to the fact that it became known only in 2002 after the Swiss taxonomist and ichthyologist Maurice Kottela compiled her scientific description.

But the name of the fish was due not to the scientist, but to the Thai exporter Katsuma Kubota, who was the first to acquire a new decorative look.

Botsiyu Kubota is also called the Chess battle.

Habitat: was first found in the Salween River, which flows through the border areas of Thailand and Myanmar. Fish are also found in the Surya River in the Thai Tak province and the Kaya River in Myanmar.

Chess combat lives on sections of rivers with a slow current and clear water, over which trees create a dense shadow. In such places there is a soft bottom made of sand and fallen leaves and a lot of stones, branches and underwater driftwood.

Description: body of elongated shape with a rounded line of the back and a flat belly. On the flattened head there are four pairs of delicate antennae. The tail is divided into two blades.

The eyes are rather large, there is no protective skin on them.

Like all bots, there is an infraorbital spike, which the fish bulges at danger with a characteristic clicking sound.

The body color is dark, from chocolate to dark ink shade. Light and dark irregularly shaped spots of various sizes are randomly scattered around the body.

The fins are transparent with dark stripes.

Gender differences are mild. The females are slightly fuller and larger, they have a more rounded snout.

In males, it is elongated with large fleshy lips.

In nature it grows up to 15 cm, but in a home aquarium, its size is usually not more than 7-10 cm.

Arrangement and parameters of the aquarium: Chess combat peace-loving, curious and active fish, but at the same time fearful. For their comfortable existence it is necessary to maintain a group of 5-7 individuals. A flock of 10 or more fish will feel even better, showing inherent in this type of behavior.

When kept alone, they become withdrawn and show aggression towards similar (externally) species of fish.

Not territorial and can safely relax together in one shelter. However, the fighting is different in building in a flock of a strict social hierarchy, in which the main usually becomes a large female.

For a couple Chess botsiy (Botia kubotai) You will need a capacity of 80 liters with soft sand as a substrate and a large number of shelters, for example, snags, stones, pieces of pipes or decorative grottoes. Plants need to be planted thickly, choosing species with wide, large leaves, fish love to relax on them.

Lighting needs to create a diffused and dim.

Water parameters: 22-28 ° C, dGH up to 15, pH 6.0-7.5.

Intolerant to the accumulation of organic waste – it is necessary to control the content in the water of nitrites, to which the combat cubot is very sensitive. The water in the aquarium should be saturated with oxygen. To do this, you should install a good filter and an aerator, it is desirable to create a weak flow of water.

Most easily adapted in biologically active and mature aquariums. Fish need weekly changes of one third of the water.

Excellent neighbors for the chess battle will be active, but not aggressive types. But it’s better to refrain from sharing content with veil forms – fighters love to damage their fins.

Nutrition: picky in their food and take all kinds of feed. The basis of the diet should be protein food – live and frozen coretr, tubule, artemia, bloodworm. Take dry food in the form of sinking tablets, granules and chips.

For a complete diet, you sometimes need to treat the fish with leaves of scalded lettuce, slices of cucumber and zucchini. They can eat snails.

Beats love to eat and often overeat. Periodic fasting days will help to avoid their obesity and the appearance of problems with the health of the fish.

Reproduction: in captivity the battle of cubota does not multiply. There is only one case of spawning in a domestic pond, recorded in 2008 by a British aquarist. But it is rather an exception and the process of obtaining offspring from Chess Botsiya (Botia kubotai) in aquarium lovers has not yet mastered.

On a commercial basis is divorced with the use of hormones.

note: Do not forget that the fighting have a sharp, movable under-eye spine, which is usually hidden in the subcutaneous sac, but when frightened, it appears. Therefore, when fishing with this fish, it is necessary to handle it carefully, as they can become entangled in the net of a net, and a thorn of large individuals can injure a person’s skin.

Betsii, like many loaches, is prone to a disease such as “exhaustion” and is characterized by weight loss. This is especially common in recently imported specimens and is believed to be caused by flagellates of the genus Spironucleus.

It is treatable – antibiotic Levamisole or Panacur (Panacur) is used – medicine for animals.
