Blue neon: a guide to breeding and photo content

Hello colleagues. At the request of the reader of my blog, today’s article will be devoted to blue neon.

This aquarium fish belongs to the family of haracin. This aquatic animal lives in various reservoirs in the territory of Colombia, Peru and Brazil. The population of blue neons in the Rio Negru river basin is very numerous. The extraction of blue neons in Brazil has been put on an industrial scale.

Local tribes are engaged in fishing, then dealers come to their villages and exchange caught fish for food.

Blue neon got its name thanks to the blue strip on the upper back. The blue strip stretches from the head of the fish almost to the tail.

In the middle part of the strip has a silver-olive ebb. From the middle of the body to the tail stretches red wide strip. If the fish is healthy, then its fins are transparent.

Closer to the night, the bright neon color becomes not so catchy, and the fish itself becomes sleepy. In addition, neon loses its bright color as a result of the resulting stress.

Blue neon is considered a peace-loving and schooling aquarium fish, just like its congener – red and black neons. Very often you can find these large flocks of these beautiful fish in aquariums lovers of Haracin.

As a hydrobiont leads the pack way of life, it is preferable for an aquarium to acquire a flock of 8-10 pieces. The more neon flocks in your tank, the more beautiful the appearance of your can will be.

In order to stimulate neons to stay in the flock, a large peace-loving neighbor, such as a discus, is sometimes added to the aquarium.

Adult fish grow to 3-4 centimeters. Unfortunately, neon sexual dimorphism is weakly expressed.

The only more or less noticeable difference between the male and the female is the fuller abdomen of the female. How well have you organized the conditions for your pets, how well will they feel. Since blue neon lives in the Amazon, and there is a lot of vegetation in it, then, accordingly, a large number of aquarium plants should also be planted in your aquarium.

The main thing is not to forget to leave the place for free swimming of fish.

In addition, in aqua with neons, you can put floating aquarium plants (pistiya, riccia, nyad Guadalupe), just see that they do not prune other grass and she did not suffer from a lack of lighting. To emphasize the expressive color of the fish, the aquarium soil should be of a dark color, although this condition is relevant for all aquarium fish. The optimum water temperature for the content of blue neon is considered to be 20-26 degrees, it is this temperature in the rivers of South America.

But the variation of hydrochemical parameters of water can be solid, since in the rainy season the rivers are filled with softer and less acidic water. Based on this condition, blue neons can easily adapt to different conditions. But it is still preferable to keep the pH level in the region of 5.0 – 7.0 and the hardness is within 1-2 dH.

In the diet, the fish is unpretentious and eats dry food, artificial, frozen and live in the form of bloodworms without any problems.

The life span of blue neon ranges from 5 to 10 years, and the fish reaches sexual maturity at the age of 5-6 months. For breeding, producers are selected and placed in a shaded aquarium with a water temperature of about 25 degrees.

After the selection of manufacturers, the level of illumination is gradually increased until the fish begin to spawn. In addition, a good stimulation to spawn will be abundant feeding of producers with bloodworms, a 50 percent water change and a decrease in hardness to 4dH.

Why do these actions provoke fish breeding? The fact is that in nature these phenomena occur with the onset of the rainy season.

In order to successfully propagate neons in a home aquarium, the following chemical parameters need to be organized: the acidity of water is 5.5 – 6.5 pH, the total alkalinity after adding phosphoric acid should be no more than 3.2 mg / l, and carbonate hardness – 6.0 mg / l.

From spawning it is desirable to remove all unnecessary items, and sterilize the jar itself. The substrate for spawning can serve as a regular nylon brush.

Surprisingly, females living in aquarium conditions are more prolific than natural relatives. Under natural conditions, the performance of the female – 28 eggs, and in the aquarium – 80.

Be careful, as the neon caviar is extremely sensitive to various impurities in water and lighting. During spawning, manufacturers can jump out of the aquarium and eat all the eggs.

To prevent this from happening, a separator grid should be laid on the bottom and the aqua cover should be covered with an aqua cover glass.

24 hours after spawning, larvae emerge from the eggs. After 5-6 days, the fry are already able to move freely around the aquarium in search of food.

As soon as the time has come, then in spawning it is necessary to immediately begin to make starter feed for fry in the form of ciliates, boiled egg yolk and rotifers. After a couple of weeks, the fry can already be fed with artemia.

Somewhere in the month of life, the fry acquire the color of adult fish.
