Blue Dumps Content and Dilution Conditions

Charming Blue Dempsey or Blue Tsichlasoma belongs to the cichlid family that is widespread among ornamental fish. In the wild, beauty is found in the waters of Honduras and Mexico.

Aquarists face difficulties in breeding an animal. This explains why such an attractively appealing cichlid species is rarely found in pet stores.

Charming Blue Dempsey or Blue Cichlasoma belongs to the cichlid family

Blue Dempsey – a fish with an amazing story. The blue tsikhlasoma was bred by Argentinean Hector Luzardo by crossing related species of tsikhlazom: brilliant and octofasciatum.

It took a zealous amateur aquarist 10 years of hard work for the mutation to stabilize. The diamond tsikhlasoma presented a dumper with pearl neon shine, therefore an unusual fish is sometimes called an electric blue.

Much later, fish with similar signs were found in the wild. Under natural conditions, dempsey prefers canals with sludge bottoms and thick vegetation.

A characteristic feature of the blue cychlasoma is a complex reproduction process. Spawning, in which out of 100% of juveniles, 20–25% belong to blue cichlids, is considered successful. Selection of a pair is no less problematic.

One of the parents must have a blue color gene.

The features of the species also include:

  • low viability of fry;
  • high incidence of fry in the first two months;
  • the color becomes apparent only when the fish reaches 6 mm in length.

An aquarist who has ventured to breed dempsey has difficulty identifying. It is recommended to separate the usually weaker babies of an electric blue from the total mass of young stock as early as possible.

Otherwise strong fry will easily eat blue hybrids.

Adult Blue Dumpsey cichlids have a peaceful, even meek disposition. The instinct of a fighter, typical of all types of families, manifests itself in the event that danger threatens the offspring.

The fish eventually learns to recognize the owner, which indicates the presence of the beginnings of intellectual activity.

Dempsie’s head is large, with large expressive eyes. The neat mouth is equipped with thick lip arches.

The body is decorated with black spots and broken lines. Large areas of the body, as well as fins, have a neon blue color.

The combination of blue and black make the fish bright, memorable. Males have black spots on the tail, body.

Their anal and dorsal fins are noticeably larger. In addition, males differ from females in more intense colors.

Dampsey body is decorated with black spots and broken lines.

Breed advantages:

  • large size – the average length of a small fish is about 20 cm;
  • harmoniously developed body;
  • “Intellectual” behavior;
  • unpretentious care.

Fish live in pairs, which are formed at an early age. A distinctive feature of the electric blue is loyalty to one partner throughout life.

With proper care, the life span of a dempsey is 10 years.

For Blue Dumps tsikhlazomy content in warm water is comfortable, as it corresponds to the natural habitat conditions. Since the fish is from Central America, Aquarium water must meet the following requirements:

  • temperature + 25-28 degrees Celsius;
  • stiffness from 8 to 12 degrees;
  • acidity level of 6-7 units.

When the water temperature is below 23 degrees Celsius, the aggressiveness of electric blu sharply increases, which is manifested in the struggle for territory. The situation stabilizes when the temperature rises to +26 degrees Celsius.

When the level of heat drops to +8 degrees Celsius, the blue tsikhlasom dies.

One mature couple requires 150 liters of water. For the cultivation of large individuals whose size exceeds the standard, the volume is increased to 200 liters. Replace one third of the water once a week.

Since dempsey in the wild lives in swampy areas of water bodies, aquarium vegetation must be dense and fast-growing. The most suitable are:

  • echinodorus;
  • elodia;
  • Hazelnut species.

Electric Blue constantly love to dig in the ground, which harms the root system of plants. Therefore, it is recommended to plant algae in pots.

Fish need shelters that are created with the help of snags, grottoes, large stones. At the same time, you can not overdo it.

Dempsey need enough living space for free movement.
