Black neon is ideal for a species aquarium.

Hello! Black neon is the birthplace of slow-flowing rivers and standing bodies of water from Bolivia, Paraguay and Brazil.

For the first time in Europe, this fish appeared in 1961, and was introduced to the USSR two years later. Black neon looks great in a specific aquarium, especially if you contain a large flock of 10-12 pieces.

The black neon is flattened at the sides, low and elongated body. On the tail fin there are two blades.

The back of the fish is olive-green and the belly is light. On the sides of the body of the fish is a pair of stripes, one of which is hollow-green, and the second is black.

The iris of the eyes above has a red edging. Neon fins are yellowish or transparent, and dorsal fin has a yellowish-red tint. Like all harats, this hydrobiont has a fatty fin.

It is possible to distinguish a male from a female by the slimness of the body (the males are slimmer), and the female is larger and thicker than the male (as in red neons). In aquarium conditions, black neon does not grow more than 5 centimeters in length and can live up to 5 years.

As I mentioned above, black neon is best kept in flocks, as the fish is mobile, peaceful and sociable. The recommended number of fish in the flock should be from 10 to 15 pieces, or you will not notice all the beauty of the fish.

Mostly hydrobiont prefers to stay in the upper or middle layer of water. Black neon can be called an unpretentious aquarium fish, which easily transfers trips from stores and easily gets along in a new pond.

This fish does not require a large jar, the main thing is to observe the proportion of 10-15 liters of water per pair of fish. It is recommended to lay a primer and a dark background on the bottom of the aquarium.

Just do not forget to create a sufficient number of shelters in the form of dense thickets of aquarium plants and a pile of kagyag or stones. Of the plants, Javanese moss, cryptocoryne of any species, echinodorus and any species of ferns are considered ideal variants.

The main thing is to plant weed along the side and back walls of the aquarium in order to get enough space for swimming.

It happened so, but black neons rather badly endure bright light, therefore the lighting of the aquarium should be weak and it is desirable to place the aquarium in a shaded area of the room. Aquarium water with neon should have the following parameters:

  • water temperature: 23-25 degrees;
  • it is desirable to have a peat filter;
  • weekly water change;
  • water hardness make 5-10 dH;
  • acidity: 6.8-7.0 pH.

It is possible to feed black neon with anything: it feeds on live food (small bloodworm, frozen cyclops), vegetable and dry food without any problems. A small fish tolerates prolonged hunger for three to four weeks.

Under natural conditions, the aquatic animal feeds on insects that have fallen on the surface of the reservoir and small crustaceans.

Breeding black neon is quite difficult and time consuming. Fish spawn can be thrown all year round, but mostly it occurs in spring and summer, as there are a lot of insects falling in water in nature during the summer season.

Spawning for 3-4 manufacturers should have a volume of 15-20 liters and the water level in it should not exceed 20 centimeters. To propagate neonchik need to get water, which defended for two weeks and would have the following chemical parameters:

  • water hardness: 2-12 dH;
  • acidity: 6.2-6.6;
  • water temperature: 24-26 degrees.

In spawning need to put a cryptocoryne or Ceylon fern, which must first be well washed and laid on the bottom of willow roots. Spawning aquarium should be put in such a place that it does not fall on the sun’s rays to darken from all sides.

For spawning, plump females and the most mobile and active males are selected. Future producers should be kept separately for a week and well fed.

The day before spawning, feed the fish to stop.

To spawn fish begin in the morning and for two or three days. The spawn itself lasts for 1.5-2 hours, the rest the next day.

During one spawning, the female can sweep from 100 to 200 transparent eggs. As soon as the neons are spawned, the manufacturers are removed from the spawning and the latter is shaded.

By the time the eggs are incubated from day to two. After 4-5 days, the larvae can swim and feed themselves.

Just at this time it is necessary to include a weak light in the spawning aquarium. First, the young need to be fed with infusoria, rotifers, nauplii of small crustaceans, and as the offspring matures, vegetable feed is introduced into the diet.

Small things grow quickly enough and the first two weeks are constantly hiding under the leaves of plants. First, the fry are painted gray with dark transverse stripes. When the fry are 3 weeks old, a shiny and black strip will appear on their body, their eyes will be recoloured, at the age of 5 weeks they will be similar in color to adult individuals that can be transplanted into a common jar.

Quite often, young black neon suffers from the so-called “neon disease”, which manifests itself in a change in color. This disease inevitably leads to the death of the fish.

Therefore, it is better to immediately remove the sick individual from the jar, since the rest of the trifle may suffer. The sexually mature fish becomes 10-11 months old.
