Deciding what kind of fish to start first in your tank can be sudden, and can be thought out. Unfortunately, novice aquarists are often guided by the very first impulse, completely without understanding the fish. And then, instead of joy and pleasure, they get a headache and problems.

You need to choose the fish wisely, because their life and your comfort depend on your choice. Before you go to the store or to the market, study all the available information about the fish that you liked.

What kind of fish is not worth buying for beginners, we have considered here. And the top 10 unusual fish here.

And in order to make it easier for you to navigate, we have compiled a list of the best aquarium fish for beginners and briefly described them. All of them are distinguished by unpretentiousness, tolerance to conditions in an aquarium, peaceful nature, livableness and modest size.

We hope that it will help make your choice easier!

Danio rerio is a small (up to 5-6 cm), elegant fish. For its small size, peaceful disposition and unpretentiousness, it has earned great popularity in aquarium.

Since this is a schooling fish, it is better to keep at least 5-6 individuals. The aquarium can be planted with plants, but it is important that the danios have free space for swimming near the surface, as this is a very mobile fish. If you are going to have a veil form, do not plant them with fish that may tear off fins, for example, with a Sumatran barbus.

The aquarium should be closed, as danios can jump out of the water.

Omnivorous, they eat any kind of feed – branded, live, frozen. It is better to feed them with flakes, as they pick up food from the surface of the water and they don’t collect them for a long time without sinking.

It is very easy to breed danios, for once the female lays from 200 to 500 eggs.

Very beautiful and very small fish, which is perfect in the neighbors for all of the above fish. Grow up to 5 cm and very peaceful. Beautiful coloring, on which a black spot stands out (for which it got its name), its small size and peaceful disposition made it very popular.

It is better to keep the cuneiform pack in a flock, and there should be enough free space in the aquarium for swimming. The flock rasbor keeps together and very much decorates any aquarium.

You can feed a variety of feeds, it is only important not to give large ones, as it simply cannot swallow them.

Speaking about the popularity of fish, it should be said that a meaning is embedded in this concept: the prevalence among aquarists, accessibility, ease of maintenance — the simplicity of the fish, etc. That is, a popular fish is a fish deserved authority and demand in the aquarium market. Popularity does not depend on the size or type of fish.

As a rule, this question is asked by novice aquarists who are going to purchase or purchase additional fish.

In this connection, it should be noted that when buying fish, first of all, it is necessary to take into account the compatibility of aquarium fish, and only then their popularity.
So, we present to your attention our selection of the most popular aquarium fish (in alphabetical order, with photos and descriptions).
Ancistrus
The most popular soma suckers. Antsistrusy not whimsical in the content, are orderlies of the aquarium world.

They have a sharp character and can even drive medium-sized, neighboring fish.
Order, family: carps, mail catfish.

Ph: 6.5-7.5.
Aggressiveness: not aggressive 10%.
Antsistrus has a mouth with horn-shaped suckers, which he actively scrapes algae in an aquarium – he cleans the walls of the aquarium and eats dead organics. I am happy to eat any live and dry food.

The activity of these soms is manifested with the onset of dusk or when the aquarium lighting is turned off during the day.
Astronotus
These fish are hard to call easy to maintain, since they belong to the family of tsikhlovyh fish, moreover they are large, predatory fish. Nevertheless, due to its beauty, its qualities: demeanor, mind – the astronotuses won the leading positions in popularity among cichlids.

At present, it is very difficult to classify guppies, because as a result of numerous crosses, more and more new breeds are bred each year.
Gupeshek can be kept in the general aquarium (but not with fast-floating species that can tear off their fins) with a length of 60 cm, in places with dense thickets of plants, including small-leaved, reaching the surface of the water (among them desirable Indian limnophila and glossy grass), floating plants with roots hanging down, as well as riccia, where the fry will find shelter. To the volume of the aquarium guppies are undemanding.

Gourami
Another large family is the labyrinth fish. The beauty and popularity of these fish is their diversity and beauty.

And also in the fact that they are not demanding aeration of the aquarium and can go without it for a long time. This is due to the fact that the homeland – the habitat of the gourami is the rice fields of Asia, where there is little oxygen in the water, and the water itself is stagnant.

These fish, as a result of evolution, have learned to breathe atmospheric air, which they capture from the surface of the water with the help of the gill labyrinth.
Order, family: labyrinth
Comfortable water temperature: 24 – 28 ° C.
Ph: 6.5-7.5.
Aggressiveness: not aggressive 40%.
For maintenance, an illuminated aquarium (overhead lighting) with a volume of 100 l and more, with thickets of living plants and free swimming space is required. It is desirable to have snags (fish constantly keep near them).

Filtration, light aeration and weekly substitution of up to 30% of the volume of water are needed.
Danio
These are small, nimble fishes, which mainly swim in flocks near the surface of the water. Pink danios are especially popular. Unpretentious in content, inexpensive, can get along even with large non-predatory neighbors.

A flock prefers to swim in the upper layers of the water, without disturbing the bottom fish with a peaceful disposition. However, the aquarium should have a cover so that the fish do not jump out of it.

How to equip the first beautiful aquarium

Foreword

“I am unspeakably pleased with the fact that you are taking the first steps into the wonderful WORLD OF AQUARIUM FISH.

I will draw your attention This article is introductory and basic. I strongly recommend that you familiarize yourself with more informative articles of our site “about the first steps in the underwater kingdom”, which you will find at the end of this article. “

Scientists have shown that even short-term observation of aquarium fish normalizes blood pressure and calms the nervous system. And fish care teaches children to care and attention.

The underwater world is mysterious and still little studied. Therefore, if you decide to create an aquarium world at home, then before that you should be familiar with the rules of underwater life.

Aquariums can be of any shape: round, semicircular, cylindrical, rectangular, etc. They should not be put on the windowsill, as it will be exposed to direct sunlight, which in turn will lead to “greening of the aquarium” – uncontrolled growth of algae.

There are also aquariums that are suspended from the ceiling or embedded in furniture or a wall between two rooms. For such aquariums can be observed simultaneously from two rooms.

If you want to do sea fish, then keep in mind that the equipment for the marine aquarium will be more expensive than for freshwater. In addition, for marine life will need to specifically prepare salt water.

Freshwater aquariums are cheaper and easier to care for, but the fish living in fresh water are less exotic.

Imitation of a marine aquarium is a freshwater aquarium of decorations with artificial algae and corals under a marine aquarium with bright freshwater fish.

The smaller the aquarium, the harder it is to care for it. The aquarium in which live plants will be taken should not be very high – no higher than 50 cm.

If it is higher, then you need more powerful or additional lighting.

Aquarium can be designed yourself. For a homemade aquarium it is necessary to take only high-quality glass. The front glass is better to put imported, it is more expensive, but more transparent and better.

All aquarium glass must be professionally cut and polished. Do not save on silicone – it should be solid, proven brands.

It is worth noting that a homemade aquarium goes a little cheaper than a shop (and even more expensive if it comes to individual order). In this connection, we can say that the game is not worth the candle.

Quality, in all respects, are aquariums Japanese firm “ADA”. They are much more expensive than other brands.

Optimum at the price and quality Kharkiv aquariums of the Priroda company. Recomend for everybody.

Planting an aquarium is better with live plants. Stunted should be planted in front, then – medium height, and behind – high.

For some species of fish, live plants are simply necessary – they hide there, and some even lay eggs on the leaves of plants.

Living plants are definitely needed. Even if you start a fish that loves to eat them.

Just feed it better so that it does not take up the plants. Plants help dispose of the waste products of fish.

The more of them, the better.

Plants, first of all, need light. They feed on them.

Therefore, there should be good lighting in the aquarium – lamps with a capacity of 0.6 to 1 W per liter of water.

At the initial stage, the aquarium should be highlighted 7-8 hours a day. Then 11-12 hrs., But no more than this, so that your aquarium does not turn into a solid green swamp.

When buying aquarium fish, and also in the care of them it is necessary to ensure that they feel well. Most healthy fish swim calmly, do not get clogged in a corner. The fish should have a good color “not to be pale”, clean body, not bitten fins.

The fish must breathe properly – i.e. when the gill covers do not rise, but only the mouth opens. Eyes must be clean and clear, never protrude.

At the bottom of the aquarium ground is needed. The soil in the aquarium is a substrate for plants and for beneficial bacteria.

The thicker the soil, the better – at least 5 cm. For living plants, it should be generally like a multi-layered cake with all the necessary substances.

At the bottom of the aquarium, you can put clean sand. In general, it is better to buy soil in the store.

It should be remembered that before placing the soil in the aquarium, it should be washed, but rather boiled or at least pour over with hot water.

The temperature regime in the aquarium is supported by specials. heater, which is especially needed in winter to control the temperature of the water. After all, fish can die from the cold.

Fish feed mainly dry and frozen feed. It is better to combine a variety of food, so that the fish eat a varied and nutritious food, get enough vitamins, proteins and minerals. Feed the fish once or twice a day with a small amount of feed, which they completely ate in a few minutes.

Remember, it is better to feed a small fish than to overfeed.

Fish can be fed live food. Some predatory fish feed chicken or other meat (bullish heart).

The easiest option for a novice aquarist is guppies. They have very beautiful males, females are smaller and not so bright.

Guppies are very unpretentious to the conditions of detention. They are viviparous and multiply very quickly.

Therefore, over time, they can become very much in your aquarium.

Beautiful and unpretentious neon fish. They are small but bright.

If you run them a lot in one aquarium, it will be very beautiful.

Some types of fish are not combined. To live in one aquarium, you need to pick up fish that would not harm each other. There are “territorial” fish that fight among themselves, conquering territory.

Each fish has its own food preferences, as well as its own character.

Large predatory fish should not be placed in the same aquarium with small fish, so that the former do not destroy the latter.

There are very picky fish, for example, discus and butterfly apistogramma. Such fish require special attention and good care.

Cichlids are the brightest and most beautiful fish, but as a rule they are aggressive, territorial and are predators. Predators should be settled only with those fish that they can not eat.

Tsikhlovyh fishes can not be combined together with haracin, because the first is much more aggressive than others. In addition, part of the Cichlidae does not live in an acidic, but in an alkaline environment.

For aquarium fish need aeration, which saturates water with oxygen. What is achieved with the help of special compressors.

To clean the aquarium water filter put, and also use aquarium activated carbon.

Get an aquarium! Make fish!

Aquarium is great, and caring for it is much easier than for cats and especially for dogs)))

The most unpretentious and small aquarium fish with photos

I think many aquarium fish experts will agree that the first place is given to guppes.

Everyone probably knows these fish … even those who have never seen aquariums. We can say that these fish are the fish of all children of the former USSR (they were in all Soviet aquariums))). The fish is very beautiful and unpretentious.

The tail fin is her beauty. The simplicity of the fish is that it can withstand “difficult conditions of detention.” I happened to see an aquarium with guppies. without aeration, without filtering, without plants, without proper feeding etc. – horror, terrible dream aquarist.

Nevertheless, guppies managed not only to survive in such an aquarium, but even tried to multiply. So to mock the fish of course not worth it.

But their endurance and vitality sometimes affects.

GUPPI – THIS IS A SYMBIOSIS: BEAUTY, INSENSITIVENESS AND EASY + SUPPLEMENTS REPLACE ARE “LIKE A KROL” INDEPENDENTLY – YOU WILL ALWAYS BE UPDATED OF “AQUARIUM PAINTS” Read about the GUPPI read more

2nd place Swordtails

A very famous fish, as a result of persistent selection, a large number of swordtails of various colors and shapes were bred. Males differ from females by the presence of a “sword” on the lower edge of the caudal fin.

Swordtails are kept in flocks in a densely planted aquarium. The minimum size of the aquarium from 10 liters (but better is more).

A good volume of aquarium for a small group of swordtails is 50 liters.

An interesting fact about these fish is that the female swordtail can, at some point, become a male, i.e. change the floor. This is due to the struggle for the survival of the species.

HOW AND GUPPI ARE RECOMMENDED, ALL THOSE WHO DO NOT WANT TO DEAD WITH THE AQUARIUM.

Read about swordsmen more in detail here.

3rd place Somiki corridors

It should begin with the fact that all aquarium catfish – a priori unpretentious. Moreover, they are “orderlies of the aquarium world”: they clean the soil and eat the remnants of life activity. The corridors are chosen from all catfish, since

in addition to the gill, they have intestinal respiration, those. if aeration stops, they will live for a long time.

The fish are very peaceful, calm. They slowly swim along the bottom in search of food. In the aquarium they are usually kept in flocks.

Fish, do not pose any threat to other inhabitants of the aquarium.

You can read more about CORRIDORATUS here.

4th place Mollies

Molly, like guppies – viviparous fishes. Unpretentious and tolerant of poor conditions.

Nevertheless, they are more capricious than the “troika of winners”.

Fish suitable for beginners and young aquarists. The fishes most difficult to keep from all members of the family are demanding of their conditions, they do not tolerate low temperatures, some like “salty” water, like bright light, etc.

You can read more about MOLLINESIA here.

5th place Tetras – Harazinki

All tetras are small, brisk, not capricious fishes. However, they will not be able to survive in “Spartan conditions” as guppies.

They need aeration and filtration. You can keep them in an aquarium by a group (from 5 individuals) with a volume of at least 35 liters of water.

You can read more about TETRAH here.

6th place Ternetsii

Very famous little fish. Fish energetic, mobile. Fish get along well with other types of fish.

Somehow my terntions even lived with small cichlids. Recommended aquarium with a volume of at least 30 liters of water, densely planted with plants.

Aeration, filtration – yes!

You can read more about TERNIA here.

7th place Danio (rerio, pink)

Starting from the 5th place TOP, all the fish require unpretentious attention. Tanks are different from them – briskness and speed of movement.

They can coexist with many species of fish, even with fish of medium and increased aggression: scalar, goura and even with small cichlids.

Read more about DANIO here.

8th place Torakatum

One of the famous large catfish of the aquarium world and excellent attendants of the aquarium. Peaceable and unpretentious to the content. They can be kept in a common aquarium with thickets of plants and a large number of shelters.

Fish, do not pose any threat to other inhabitants of the aquarium. Compatible with all kinds of fish.

The neighbors are not recommended only one hundred percent aggressors and predators.

You can read more about TORAKATUM here.

9th place Gourami

Gourami – are medium sized fish. Entered in this TOP due to gill labyrinth – fish do not need aeration, they breathe atmospheric air.

Really peaceful fish, but sometimes aggression. Some individuals taken separately are even very aggressive, as they say, as lucky.

You can read more about GURAMs here.

10 place Barbus

Barbusses are schooling, small fish that can stand up for themselves! If you decide to start a barbus, I recommend to allocate for this a separate aquarium, “barbusyatnik.” “Pirate” temper, the ability to stand up for themselves – deserve 10th place.

You can read more about BARBUSH here.

Of course, the above TOP is conditional – always remember the words
