Beautiful aquarium fish angelfish in the home pond

Dear colleagues! I apologize for the long absence, I was forced to leave Slavyansk because you knew it, taking my wife and my five-month-old daughter.

I am writing now from central Ukraine, I will not name the city for political reasons. I want to talk today about aquarium fish angelfish.

Angelfish in nature inhabit the territory of South America in the gulfs of rivers, lakes or in slowly flowing waters. The fish prefers reeds overgrown with reeds, and their flat shape makes it possible to move freely in such thickets. In the thickets of reeds, the scalar hiding from predators and lay their eggs.

There were even cases when travelers met the angelfish in the crevices of steep shores. Basically, these amazing fish are kept in groups of up to 20 individuals.

Angelfish are considered to be among the most popular fish among aquarists around the world.

Where did such an unusual form come from the fish? The fact is that this form was due to the stretching of the dorsal and anal fins.

Over time, the pelvic fins acquired the outlines of threads, which allowed the fish to literally feel objects and move quickly in the water. If the fish live in nature, then on its sides will be visible transverse stripes, which will change the brightness of the color depending on different conditions and the light of the reservoir.

These vertical stripes help the fish to successfully disguise in the vegetation. The only prominent feature of the fish in nature is its red eyes.

Let’s now talk about the merits of this representatives of hydrobionts. The fish is relatively unpretentious to the conditions of detention (I have already written about unpretentious aquarium fish, you can click on the link and read the article), an interesting demeanor, the fish can be kept with peaceful fish of appropriate size, a unique care for their offspring. If you move a scalar to larger fish, make sure that the scalar scalar fins will not attract the attention of neighbors, otherwise they can constantly close for them.

Quite often the fish perceive these stirring fins as food.

When you decide to buy yourself an angelfish in a home aquarium, avoid such fish as neons or guppies as their neighbors. Simply, there is a great chance that they will be eaten.

Another advantage of the angelfish is that they are not picky about food, that is, they eat almost everything. The fish can eat live food (tubule, koretra, bloodworm) and ice cream.

Alternatively, the diet can be diluted with flaky or granulated feed. The main thing that you will need to consider when feeding is that because of the flat shape, the scalar practically do not lift the food from the bottom.

It is recommended to contain a scalar under conditions similar to those optimal for cichlids. The minimum volume of an aquarium for a pair of angelfish should be 40-50 liters. And if you take into account the shape of the body of the fish, then the ideal option would be an aquarium screen or a painting with a depth of about 60 centimeters.

The temperature of the water in the aquarium with scalars should be like a discus aquarium: 22-26 ° C. Not critical is a sharp and short-term drop in water temperature to 18 ° C. The ceiling of temperature that can be – is 33 ° C, which is usually used in the treatment of fish from various sores.

Angelfish as well as discus – the most beautiful fish in a freshwater aquarium (this is my personal opinion and it may not coincide with the opinion of others). Do not be afraid of aquarist if the fish refused to eat for a few weeks, this is a normal situation and it does not cause any negative consequences.

Why they do this, no one still knows, but the fact remains.
