Barbus Schubert: maintenance, breeding and care in an aquarium

Hello, friends! Barbus Schubert appeared on the territory of the USSR in the 50s of the last century and got its name thanks to the man who was the first to describe him – Tom Schubert.

This barb is considered a small, peaceful and very mobile aquarium fish, which is kept in large flocks. Therefore, if you want to buy yourself this hydrobiont, get at least eight pieces.

Barber Schubert is also considered an unpretentious aquarium fish, so it can be safely recommended to beginner aquarists. The only significant condition is an aquarium of 50 liters of volume for a pair of fish, and of course, it must be elongated, as the fish needs a lot of space for movement.

The optimum water temperature for a watchdog is 18-23 degrees Celsius. But if you believe the stories of some aquarists, the fish is able to withstand a temperature drop of up to 10 degrees.

Be sure to organize the filtration and aeration of the aquarium.

Once a week, make a rule to substitute about 1/5 of the water for fresh. Aquarium grass, choose a low, which can withstand poor lighting. This is due to the fact that this type of fish looks best in a jar with moderate light and a darkened back wall of aqua.

You can feed your pet with any kind of food: bloodworms, pipe makers, lettuce and cabbage leaves, small-leaved algae, as well as combined and dry food. Also, the fish do not hesitate to eat a shabby curd.

As residents in the neighborhood, select the same small and non-aggressive aquarium fish (red neons, crescents, rhodostomuses). It is not advisable to move the veiltails to the barbs, as they will remain without fins.

To multiply this fish is not difficult. The puberty barbus Schubert becomes mature at the age of 8-10 months.

A week before the spawning of producers, it is advisable to plant off separately and feed well. Spawning aquarium should also be long and its volume should be from 30 liters. At the bottom of the banks lay a separator grid or small-leaved plants (Javanese moss).

Since parents can eat their caviar without any problems, it is not recommended to make the water level in the spawner more than 10 centimeters. Caviar needs time to fall to the bottom under the net and her parents did not eat it.

The water temperature in the spawning area should be 25-28 degrees and 100% fresh, since this factor plays a key role in spawning stimulation. After you create the necessary conditions for reproduction in the aquarium, in the evening in the spawning ground you will plant a female with a male.

The next day, spawning begins in the morning, which takes a couple of hours in duration. Over time, the female can sweep about 200 eggs.

After spawning is completed, the producers are removed from the spawning area and replace about 20% of the water with fresh water at the same temperature.

The duration of the incubation period of small things is 24 hours, and after the trifle begins to swim itself, it can be fed. As food for small things you can use live dust, nauplii and infusoria.

With the growth of fry, feed size increases. A barber of a Schubert can sweep up to 10 centimeters, however in a tank it rarely exceeds 7 centimeters in length.

On average, in conditions of bondage, this barb lives up to 4 years.
