Aquarium fish mollies: content, care, breeding

Greetings to all again. I am glad that you sometimes look at my blog to read new materials.

And as a thank you, I do not delay with new blog materials. Today I want to remember the aquarium fish mollies.

This velvet friend is very popular among the aquarist’s vast circle for its excellent qualities, which will be discussed below.

Well, firstly, mollies is a friend of aquarium plants and a sanitary aquarium. Here and do not go to the grandmother, the necessary fish in any aquarium, just like the swordtail. And secondly, mollies is considered one of the undemanding aquarium fish.

So where did this name come from the fish? In general, so called certain types of pesilias. This aquarium fish became popular with aquarists in the distant Soviet times.

Two types of mollies are most popular with aquarium lovers: black and sailing (Welifers).

All other types of mollies, differing from the above ones by the shape of the caudal fin, were artificially bred and were assigned to the order of lyre-tailed forms. In a similar way, breeders brought out forms of a molly with a shortened body, which are called disc ones.

In nature, sailing mollies can be found everywhere in the waters of the Yucatan Peninsula and Central America. Widespread mollies can be found both in brackish and fresh water bodies of North America located in the south-west of the continent.

The original color of a fish living in natural conditions may be different, whether it is spotty or yellow-gray.

The current forms of mollies of which we are so used to contain in our aquariums are similar to swordtails. Differences are only minor: color, enlarged dorsal and caudal fin.

In females, these pronounced signs are somewhat weaker, unlike males. But in natural conditions, the mollies of wild forms are more like placiums than of swordsmen. Pecilia along with swordsmen and molly are considered one of the most popular fish.

I prefer black mollies for its velvety black color, but some prefer sailing mollies (Velifers).

Unfortunately for novice aquarists, not all varieties of mollies are equally easy to maintain. Swordsmen and petsliyami easier than sailing Molly, who are more demanding to the conditions of detention than black. Mollies need spacious aquariums.

In addition, it is desirable that the water was hard, sometimes it can even be useful table salt. If you have not forgotten, the ancestors of the current mollies are lovers of brackish water.

The water in the aquarium should be at a temperature of 24-26 degrees and the fish can hardly tolerate temperature fluctuations. I also do not highly recommend you keep molly in an aquarium with a low water temperature, since there is a high risk of fungal diseases.

Do not forget about the dense planting of plants, because in addition to the main feed, these orderlies of the aquarium also like to eat fouling from plants, snags, stones and walls of the aquarium.

Do not forget about the necessary aquarium equipment: filter, aerator, heater, and so on, without them anywhere. Molliesia gets on well with the girinokhailus, red neons, pearl gouras.

If anyone says the opposite, better not be fooled, I have all of the above fish living in peace and harmony, without fights and broken dishes. If there are more males than females, regular showdowns of the guys can occur.

I consider the ideal proportion of 1 male to 2-3 females. If you overdo it with the number of males, then there is a great risk that a larger and more resolute male will score his kindred.

I already had this not once.

Feed mollies better course food of plant origin. You can sometimes give the fish finely chopped lettuce, they will eat them with great pleasure. In order for the fish to grow normally, not the feeding dose, but the regimen plays a significant role.

It is advisable to feed growing young animals with increased doses and more often. For adults there will be enough one-time feeding and periodically arrange fasting days for them.

And on this I finish our conversation about mollies. Thank you for taking a moment or two to read this article.

See you soon, friends.
