Hello, friends! Today, the topic of our conversation will be a two-color labeo aquarium fish.
Labo fish is quite large, so if you decide to buy one for yourself, get at least a 100-liter aquarium. The homeland of this black hydrobiont is Thailand streams.
As I said, the fry is rather large, the body is elongated and slender, and slightly flattened on the sides. On a small head there are two large red eyes, and the mouth resembles a scraper-sucker, thanks to which the labo collects various growths from the aquarium glass, snags and stones.
The two-color labo possesses a pleasant velvety black color. The fins of the fish are also black, and the tail is red.
As in the case of the girinohailus, the female labo is significantly larger than the males. In aquarium conditions, a fish more than 12-15 centimeters usually does not grow.
Sexually mature labo becomes 12-18 months old.
Two-color Labeo is a bright, very territorial and active little fish. As they grow older, the males themselves occupy the territory and actively protect it. However, the aggressiveness of the fish does not apply to absolutely all types of fish: only to their relatives and to the fish of red color.
The older the fish becomes, the sharper the intraspecific conflicts.
Suppose you want to buy yourself a flock of Labeos. Then you will need an aquarium of the appropriate size. You also need to know about the special hierarchical features inside the flock.
The leader of the pack may, with peace of mind and conscience, be able to swim into other people’s possessions, but will not let anyone on its own. As practice has shown, the Sumatran barb and his relatives are ideal neighbors for Labo, since this way the territorial squabble in the aquarium is reduced to “no”.
If an aquarist has a goal to keep labo, then he should plant large aquarium plants with powerful roots, and, moreover, take care of creating grottoes, caves, installing various pots and intricacies of snags. Eliminate your labo from the neighborhood with other fish, fiercely defending their territory.
There is a special non-secret standard for keeping a labo – a minimum of 80 liters of water is needed for one fish. That is, if you want to start a couple of heroes of our discussion today, the estimated volume of the aquarium should be at least 180 liters.
Based on this volume, you should take the amendment to the ground, stones and decorative elements. As a result, we obtain the net volume of water 150-160 liters.
Here are the necessary conditions for the successful maintenance of labeoshek:
– dH: 5-15;
– pH: 6.5-7.5;
– t: 23-37 degrees.
Do not forget to regularly take care of the aquarium, clean it, change the water, in general, do everything to preserve the established biological balance. Feed the fish preferably twice a day with live food (bloodworms, pipemaker), dry food and vegetable.
I would like to note the problematic reproduction of Labe. All difficulties arise because of a large number of important factors that cannot always be controlled.
The reproduction of fish can be affected by living conditions and life in general, the state and development of the fish. In the litter mainly females prevail.
It is for this reason that aquarists who want to breed these beautiful fish have to take a lot of individuals, and then diligently grow them and select the best specimens suitable for spawning.
For many, this is not a feasible process at all, since we need aquariums from 500 liters, and this is not everyone can afford, since the prices of aquarium gadgets are very biting. Plus, not everyone has a place at home to place banks of such volumes.
