The most unpretentious and small aquarium fish with photos
I think many aquarium fish experts will agree that the first place is given to guppes.
Everyone probably knows these fish … even those who have never seen aquariums. We can say that these fish are the fish of all children of the former USSR (they were in all Soviet aquariums))).
The fish is very beautiful and unpretentious. The tail fin is her beauty. The simplicity of the fish is that it can withstand “difficult conditions of detention.”
I happened to see an aquarium with guppies. without aeration, without filtering, without plants, without proper feeding etc. – horror, terrible dream aquarist. Nevertheless, guppies managed not only to survive in such an aquarium, but even tried to multiply.
So to mock the fish of course not worth it. But their endurance and vitality sometimes affects.
GUPPI – THIS IS A SYMBIOSIS: BEAUTY, INSENSITIVENESS AND EASY + SUPPLEMENTS REPLACE ARE “LIKE A KROL” INDEPENDENTLY – YOU WILL ALWAYS BE UPDATED OF “AQUARIUM PAINTS” Read about the GUPPI read more
2nd place Swordtails
A very famous fish, as a result of persistent selection, a large number of swordtails of various colors and shapes were bred. Males differ from females by the presence of a “sword” on the lower edge of the caudal fin.
Swordtails are kept in flocks in a densely planted aquarium. The minimum size of the aquarium from 10 liters (but better is more).
A good volume of aquarium for a small group of swordtails is 50 liters.
An interesting fact about these fish is that the female swordtail can, at some point, become a male, i.e. change the floor. This is due to the struggle for the survival of the species.
HOW AND GUPPI ARE RECOMMENDED, ALL THOSE WHO DO NOT WANT TO DEAD WITH THE AQUARIUM.

3rd place Somiki corridors
It should begin with the fact that all aquarium catfish – a priori unpretentious. Moreover, they are “orderlies of the aquarium world”: they clean the soil and eat the remnants of life activity. The corridors are chosen from all catfish, since
in addition to the gill, they have intestinal respiration, those. if aeration stops, they will live for a long time.
The fish are very peaceful, calm. They slowly swim along the bottom in search of food.
In the aquarium they are usually kept in flocks. Fish, do not pose any threat to other inhabitants of the aquarium.
You can read more about CORRIDORATUS here.
4th place Mollies
Molly, like guppies – viviparous fishes. Unpretentious and tolerant of poor conditions.
Nevertheless, they are more capricious than the “troika of winners”.
Fish suitable for beginners and young aquarists. The fishes most difficult to keep from all members of the family are demanding of their conditions, they do not tolerate low temperatures, some like “salty” water, like bright light, etc.
You can read more about MOLLINESIA here.
5th place Tetras – Harazinki
All tetras are small, brisk, not capricious fishes. However, they will not be able to survive in “Spartan conditions” as guppies. They need aeration and filtration.
You can keep them in an aquarium by a group (from 5 individuals) with a volume of at least 35 liters of water.
You can read more about TETRAH here.
6th place Ternetsii
Very famous little fish. Fish energetic, mobile.
Fish get along well with other types of fish. Somehow my terntions even lived with small cichlids. Recommended aquarium with a volume of at least 30 liters of water, densely planted with plants.
Aeration, filtration – yes!
You can read more about TERNIA here.
7th place Danio (rerio, pink)
Starting from the 5th place TOP, all the fish require unpretentious attention. Tanks are different from them – briskness and speed of movement.
They can coexist with many species of fish, even with fish of medium and increased aggression: scalar, goura and even with small cichlids.
Read more about DANIO here.
8th place Torakatum
One of the famous large catfish of the aquarium world and excellent attendants of the aquarium. Peaceable and unpretentious to the content. They can be kept in a common aquarium with thickets of plants and a large number of shelters.
Fish, do not pose any threat to other inhabitants of the aquarium. Compatible with all kinds of fish.
The neighbors are not recommended only one hundred percent aggressors and predators.
You can read more about TORAKATUM here.
9th place Gourami
Gourami – are medium sized fish. Entered in this TOP due to gill labyrinth – fish do not need aeration, they breathe atmospheric air.
Really peaceful fish, but sometimes aggression. Some individuals taken separately are even very aggressive, as they say, as lucky.
You can read more about GURAMs here.
10 place Barbus
Barbusses are schooling, small fish that can stand up for themselves! If you decide to start a barbus, I recommend to allocate for this a separate aquarium, “barbusyatnik.”
“Pirate” temper, the ability to stand up for themselves – deserve 10th place. You can read more about BARBUSH here.
Of course, the above TOP is conditional – always remember the words

Not every person can afford to buy and place a large aquarium at home. Sometimes there is simply not enough free space, and one wants to decorate the interior of the dwelling and have this kind of pets at home.
Often there are cases when small aquariums are purchased in order to put them in their workplace, thus decorating the office. But it is important to remember that a small aquarium is very difficult to maintain.
The difficulty is to properly maintain a sustainable biological system. Not every novice aquarist will be able to choose the right fish for a small aquarium.
Characteristics of a small aquarium
Experts advise not to buy very small vessels. The fact is that in small aquariums it is simply impossible to maintain the parameters that are necessary for the life of the fish. For example, for keeping fish in a small aquarium, you need to maintain a stable temperature regime.
There are fish that need the temperature in the aquarium to reach 18-20 degrees, and there are tropical species that require temperatures above 25-27 degrees.
At home, it is very difficult to maintain a stable high temperature of the water in the aquarium. At the same time, the water temperature remains one of the most important parameters for keeping fish.
In addition, as long as the bacteria do not settle the filter, the aquarist will have to frequently change the water. For replacement water is suitable, which
defended for at least two days.
Selection of equipment and plants for a small aquarium
Aquariums with a small volume are sold in specialized stores. The kit usually sells a cap, an air pump, a filter, and a light. That’s all it takes.
Usually such kits are not expensive.
The choice of plants in a small aquarium directly depends on the size of the aquarium. Large and fast-growing plants in the design of small aquariums should be avoided.
They will occupy the entire volume and will cause a lot of trouble.
For small aquariums, small species of Anubias and microzoriums are ideal. The advantage of these plants is that they do not need to be buried in the ground, but only easily attached with wire to the pebbles at the bottom.
Successfully will look and cryptocorynes. You can use different mosses for decoration.
Especially advantageous they will look in an aquarium with shrimp.
Selection of aquarium fish for a small aquarium
From viviparous fish for a small aquarium, you can choose guppies. This is a common and inexpensive fish.
You can purchase red, spotted, black or green swordtails. As an option – to get placium or mollies.
These relatively unpretentious fish for a small aquarium, there are different colors.
You can choose barbs or danios or have catfish ancytrus from the fledgling fish.
Often for the design of the workplace choose round aquariums. When choosing fish for a round aquarium usually stop at certain species.
Often you can see a goldfish in a small aquarium. Sometimes in mini-aquariums they keep frogs, tritons, shrimps.
A betta fighting fish in a small aquarium will also feel great, as it can breathe atmospheric air. This feature explains the choice of this type of fish for small round aquariums.
It can be concluded that when choosing fish for a small aquarium, many factors must be taken into account, but mini-aquariums are worth the effort, as they will be a great addition to the interior.
Small consider aquariums less than 30-40 liters, usually from 5 to 20 liters. Often they are called nano aquariums (from the Greek nano – “small, tiny, dwarf”), emphasizing with this term not only size, but also their modernity and manufacturability. There are also microaquariums, their capacity is 1-2 liters, and animals do not lodge in them, with the exception of some species of snails. The world’s smallest aquarium with fish was created by Omsk miniaturist Anatoly Konenko and his son Stanislav.
They placed in 10 ml of water a primer, a specially designed mini-compressor, small cladofor bushes and a few danio fry.
We will immediately agree that we will not call a round ten-liter jar with a goldfish a nano-aquarium because it is not an aquarium, but a mockery of fish and all the principles of aquarism.
An aquarium, no matter how large, is an equilibrium biological system whose inhabitants feel comfortable.
To achieve this in a small amount is a whole science. But, if this is possible, the results can be simply amazing.
Such aquariums, where a living biotope is reproduced in a tiny volume, resemble Japanese bonsai art or large-scale models of luxury cars: small ones, but everything is real.
Of course, not all small aquariums are worthy of aquascaping competitions or books of records, but each of them should please the eye of its owner and create a comfortable environment for its inhabitants.
Care of a mini aquarium
As for the maintenance of the aquarium of small size, here you can get under the influence of stereotypes. Often, parents buy aquariums for their children, considering that a small aquarium is easier to clean than a large one.
Rather, the “underwater world” of small size is subject to temperature changes and requires frequent water changes.
If water is rarely changed, the waste products of fish begin to accumulate on the walls and it will be rather difficult to clean the container with your hands. In addition, the slightest excess feed, stale at the bottom of such an aquarium, instantly spoils the water and shifts the biological equilibrium.
But if you decide to start a small aquarium, get it “fully loaded.” Specialists will select all the necessary equipment for lighting, water filtration and water heating.
And, despite the equipment, place the aquarium in a room whose temperature is constant.
With such a small amount of water, a drop of even 1-2 degrees negatively affects the fish. When feeding fish, give off a small amount of food so that after feeding there will be no leftovers.
Remove excess feed immediately. When caring for an aquarium, you will have to carry out frequent water changes, until the bacteria stabilize their numbers in the filter.
Bacteria convert waste decomposition products into safe substances. A stock of settled water should always be at your disposal.
Water in the aquarium should be changed every three to four days, replacing at least a quarter of the volume of water in a small aquarium.
To prevent algae, an aquarium should not be placed close to the window. Direct sunlight should not fall on it, and the duration of the active daylight should be smoothly increased from six hours immediately after the arrangement of the aquarium to ten hours by the time the biological equilibrium is stabilized.
If you need to populate a small fish tank within thirty liters, then you need to know a few rules.
Rule one. Fish for a small aquarium should not be predatory. Often acquire fry, not thinking what size they will reach when they grow up.
Therefore, you need to ask the seller about the maximum dimensions of an adult.
Rule two. Fish for a small aquarium should not be rare and expensive.
In such containers it is difficult to maintain a stable desired mode. In case of violation of the ecobalance (for example, due to excess feed), they are the first to die.
Rule three. No need to get a lot of fish.
A single individual, 5 cm long, requires approximately 4 liters of water. Easy to count: unpretentious fish for a small aquarium of 30 liters in the amount of 7-8 pieces. will feel quite comfortable.
Rule Four. There is no need to start individuals that are very different in behavioral factors.
For example, some fish are constantly moving, while others are inactive.
Fifth Rule You need to start the fish with a uniform filling of the vital volume.
For example, territorial individuals may occupy a larger capacity space, which will cause great inconvenience to other inhabitants. In addition, the fish must be combined vertically so as not to overcrowd one of the water layers (bottom, middle, top).
The most common is an inexpensive fish for a small guppy aquarium. If you wish, you can find beautiful specimens of intricate coloring.
Swordsmen of different colors feel good in such containers. They are red, black, spotty, green.
In addition, swordtails and guppies can coexist well together.
Another small fish for a small aquarium is black mollies. It is more demanding on the temperature and mineral composition of the water.
Therefore, it is slightly salted. Particularly spectacular disc red pesilia.
All these fish are similar in terms of housing, feeding and care.
