Aquarium fish feeder

maintenance, care, compatibility

From the name it is clear that the main task of such feeders is to automate the process of feeding fish. It is especially convenient for two categories of aquarists:

  • Those who are often absent at home due to certain circumstances.
  • Those who contain several aquariums, which take a long time without feeding.

Attached automatic aquarium feeder on the side wall above. It consists of a sealed engine compartment, a battery compartment and a control unit.

The tank with food is placed above the surface of the aquarium water. With the help of a timer, you set the required time for serving food, and as soon as the time is right, the feeder automatically throws out a portion of fish food.

Usually, automatic feeders are also equipped with a regulator of the amount of feed produced – in order not to sprinkle too much or vice versa very little. Feed should always be so much that the fish ate it for one feeding.

The downside of the machine is the possibility of using only one type of feed. The diet of the fish should be rich, so if you use the automatic feeder, do not forget to feed your pets.

An important point regarding the installation of the feeder. It is better to put it in the farthest corner in front of compressors and filters.

Otherwise, the feed will be accelerated in all directions. Fish will not get the right amount of food, and the aquarium will pollute faster.

Automatic feeder for fish with their own hands – photo video review description.

Catering aquarium fish – this is one of the key points of the contents of the aquarium. To simplify this procedure, an aquarium feeder was developed. It is necessary for the owner of the fish for several reasons.

But the most important reason is that the aquarium trough does not allow the food to spread on the surface of the water, while the food does not fall to the bottom of the tank, and does not rot in the corners. At first, a home-made aquarium feeder may be suitable, but in the future it is better to replace it. The material for the homemade trough is plastic, foam.

Although the latter material, many fish owners do not like very much due to the fact that it is quickly contaminated, and it is not possible to clean it.

The most successful alternative to the self-made aquarium feeder is the automatic one.

Distinguish between floating and bottom feeders, you can make them with your own hands or simply buy in a specialized store.

It is possible that the self-made feeding trough is cheaper, but it must be done correctly: so that the food does not spread to the entire aquarium or sink to the bottom, thus polluting the aquarium.

The surface aquarium trough is more profitable in this respect, it is simply attached with a sucker to the wall of the aquarium, but its disadvantage is that it is necessary to control the water level. Otherwise, the feeder bends, and the feed spreads on the surface of the water.

To prevent this from happening, it is better to attach the feeder to a moving element, for example, to an aquarium thermometer.

But sooner or later, all owners of aquariums switch to automatic feeders for fish. After all, the owners of such feed machines receive relative freedom: you can go out of town for a weekend, a business trip or a vacation. And while your pets will not starve.

Thus, the automatic feeder has several advantages.

How good is the automatic aquarium feeder? First of all, the fact that you can set on the timer the number of feedings per day, lay the feed in it and forget about everything.

The first feed feed occurs as soon as you start the automatic feeder, the rest after a certain time has passed.

The lack of automatic feeders for the aquarium can be considered only that they load only one type of food, which means that the feeding will be monotonous. Yes, and during your absence, it can fail.

The process of making a self-feeder do-it-yourself is very simple and does not take much time. For the work we need the following materials:

  • small analog clock with alarm clock;
  • plastic transparent container;
  • transparent plastic tube with a diameter of about 7-8mm.

Now consider the instructions for the manufacture of feeders for an aquarium with their own hands.

  1. In the plastic container we make a hole of a slightly smaller diameter than the diameter of the cabin, we insert the tube. Then do not have to use additional glue.

  1. Drum does not need to load completely. It is enough to fill it by two thirds, then the feed pellets will not fall out all at once under its own weight. In addition, the clock hand can withstand a certain weight and load it should be experimentally gradually, and we will attach the container to it.

  1. How does auto feed for fishes do it yourself? The container with feed pellets is attached to the watch hand. Since the container makes two turns in 24 hours, the granules will spill out of the hole in the tube twice a day. This is quite enough for feeding.
  2. The size of the hole in the hand-made feed tube will determine the number of pellets that will fall out at a time. The more it is, the more feed will get into the aquarium.
  3. The auto feeder for the aquarium is ready with your own hands and now it can be safely put into practice.

Choosing a place for the feeders in the aquarium

What will be used is an automatic fish feeder or a familiar one that requires manual manipulations, you choose. However, one rule should be remembered: carefully choose the place where you will have it, preferably where there is no aeration system and heating devices.

Ideally, it is desirable to turn off the aeration system at the time of feeding, so that the feed does not spread over the entire surface of the water. However, as you can imagine, if an automatic fish feeder is used, this item may not be feasible.

Trough functions

Such constructions are very useful when using live and dry food. It is they who do not allow food to spread over the entire surface of the water, falling into hard-to-reach places, where it will safely rot. In this regard, the automatic fish feeder is a real magic wand.

When using live food, the feeder is also very important. It allows you to keep heavy worms on the surface of the water, not allowing them to get lost under the stones at the bottom, where they are likely to rot.

In what cases without an auto feeder not to manage?

A working arivumist always has to solve the problem of regularly feeding his pets. Being all day away from home, to do this is quite problematic.

When you go on vacation for half a month, you will not take an aquarium with you either, so such a magic wand comes to the rescue.

Nowadays, as was done in the times of our grandparents, “reinventing the wheel” is not required, because given the demand for feeders for aquariums, they were adopted by some manufacturers of pet products. These devices have a variety of designs and are programmed for feed hours and volume.
