The tetra scales are shiny, the color appears gradually, by about 6-8 months. With dim lighting scales sparkle like a diamond, for this fish and nicknamed “diamond.”

The iris of the fish’s eye is pigmented red. Males can boast a brighter color, they have large ventral, anal and dorsal fins.

In its natural habitat, fish can reach a length of 6 cm, in an aquarium it usually grows up to 4-5 cm.

Tetras are schooling fish, they are peaceful, and only during spawning can they actively defend their territory. Get along well with catfish, small cichlids and neons. The aquarium should be long, planted with plants, but there should be enough space in the central part for swimming.

Water hardness can vary from 5 to 10, pH 6.5-7.0, it is desirable to maintain the temperature at a level of 22-26 degrees. Take care of filtration and aeration, weekly you need to change at least 25% of the volume of water.

Diamond tetra omnivorous, it is best to give her small plant or live food. Let’s take a little, in portions, so that the rest of the food not eaten does not sink to the bottom of the aquarium.

For spawning, it is desirable to prepare a separate reservoir of not less than 20 liters. The lighting should be diffused, before they are put in a pair, they are well fed.

They select the most mobile male and female with a big belly. At one time, the female sweeps up to 400 yellowish eggs, which settle to the bottom or leaves of plants.

After fertilization, fish eggs are removed because they tend to eat the offspring.

• Tetras are peaceful and beautiful, they are schooling fish, so it will be very interesting for you to observe their behavior, especially during the spawning season;
• For the first time this species was described in 1920, after which the population of tetras in Lake Valencia began to decline sharply, now most of the fish are the result of artificial breeding;
• Sexual maturity of fish reaches 6-8 months, at the same time they form a full color.
