The color of the barb is very bright and beautiful: there is a dark spot near the tail with a golden edging, the back is olive green, but the belly and sides have a fiery coloring, for which the inhabitants of aquariums got their name. The fins are colored copper red, and the tip is black. Males are slimmer and smaller than females, they have a brighter color.

The volume of the aquarium should be at least 60 liters, the lighting is scattered, dimmed. On a dark background, the barbs look very attractive. Take care of shelters, plant the plants to create a shade, small pebbles will be suitable as soil.
Water hardness should not exceed 15, pH – up to 7, the temperature can vary from 17 to 26 degrees.

Filtration and aeration must be present in the aquarium; these fish do not tolerate the lack of oxygen; weekly it is necessary to change up to a third of water. As for food, it is possible to feed representatives of this species with plants (algae, scalded dandelion, spinach or lettuce leaves), live (koretra, bloodworm, daphnia) or dry food.
If the barbus lacks plant food, it will begin to devour aquarium plants.
