Hello dear friends! I am writing to you already from Slavyansk, at last I came home and will start to put my house in order after a long absence due to the war.
But today we will not talk about it! And we will talk today about such a wonderful fish, like Barbus Denison.
I have already written several articles on the barbs on the blog, in particular, I touched upon the Sumatran barb, the cherry barb, and the black barb. In these articles, I described in detail these fish, mentioned the key points in the care and feeding. Today I got to barb denison.
Somehow, by chance, I decided to touch on this topic, because literally back in Krivoy Rog two days ago I saw this barbus in a pet shop. I sat for a while and decided to tell you about this fish.
Although this type of barb was mentioned in scientific circles as far back as 1865, for the first time, aquarium literature writes about it only in 1997. Include this fish in aquarium literature decided by chance after it was shown in Singapore at the exhibition “Aquarama”.
A certain researcher Heiko Blekher, who decided that this type of barb will become a promising fish in aquarism, decided to write materials for this fish.
At that time, barb Denison became a real sensation, and his popularity is growing every day more and more. But, this fish is not often found in lovers’ banks, because they are mainly caught in nature, they are not artificially bred.
In addition to everything else, their price is quite bitty. At the peak of its glory, the cost of one barb Denisoni was up to 30 euros, and it was as if they were selling for a cosmic amount – 200 euros!
Despite the fact that this fish began to actively breed, the demand and the price for it remained weighty. An interesting coloring and demeanor more and more often conquers aquarists of the CIS countries.
Some unverified sources have argued that barb Denison likes to eat the algae fouling unloved by aquarists around the world, but this theory has not been confirmed in practice. Most ichthyologists believe that this barb is significantly different from members of the Puntius genus.
At the moment, there are two ecological races and morphs on sale, differing from each other in color and size of adult fish.
In the general aquarium, the barb Denisoni gets along superbly with other peace-loving neighbors, such as red neons, thorns, swordtails, and rhodostomuses. This fish can safely sit in a jar with a diverse population.
The best conditions for this barbus are dense planting and a powerful longitudinal flow. In such an aquarium, you can populate a fairly large flock of several dozen pieces.
But for financial reasons, not every aquarist is able to create such a flock. But if you have a pet store or you are the owner of the exhibition, this design option will be very original.
In general, the barb Denisoni does not cause any problems to aquarists. They live in mountain streams with a water temperature of 15 to 25 degrees and an active reaction of 6.8-7.8 pH. A wide range of parameters of aquarium water allows you to adapt this fish to almost any conditions.
Divorced under the name “Aquanimals” of this barb, they were accustomed to a temperature of 32 degrees Celsius.
The fish is omnivorous and eats almost all types of food, ranging from vegetable and ending with animal feed. If you bought a few fish, at first it is advisable to feed them with special flakes, in which there is a high concentration of astaxanthin and carotenoids.
This will help the fish recover faster from the stress resulting from transporting the pet from the pet shop.
