Apistogram of cockatoo: video, photo, content and reproduction

Good day, dear colleagues! We continue to get acquainted with the family of cichlists and on the agenda we have the Apistogram Kakadu.

This extraordinarily beautiful cichlid lives in South America, namely in the Amazon, flowing through the territory of Brazil, Peru and Colombia.

One of the advantages of this cichlid can easily be considered simplicity in the care and maintenance. Kakadu is often recommended for beginner tsikhlidnikam, as it is not picky in the care.

Hydrobiont prefers to keep the lower and middle layers of the aquarium. Despite the peace-loving nature of this fish, there are still exceptions in nature, when a seemingly peaceful fish becomes extremely aggressive.

The apistogram reaches its peak of aggressiveness during spawning, especially for females.

The process of taking shelters for spawning proceeds as follows: the female finds herself a suitable place for laying eggs and begins to patrol her. All that she managed to chop off a female cockatoo, then goes under the protection of the male.

The territory captured by the female should be less than the possessions of the male, since then they may have misunderstandings on this basis. As a rule, in a home aquarium it is better to keep a small flock of several females and one male.

As neighbors to the Cichlidae, it is possible to subdivide small moving fish holding in the middle and upper layers of the aquarium (pearl gourami, rhodostomus, minors, ornatus, mollies, swordtails).

Why is it necessary to have these fish in a cichlid aquarium? The fact is that the presence of such neighbors will provoke a female to protect her offspring.

In aquas must be a variety of shelters in the form of grottoes, caves, snags and piles of stones. Remember only one rule – there should be more shelters than females apistograms in the aquarium. What pleases, the water in the aquarium with Kakadu can be both soft and hard.

The temperature is best kept in the range of 22-24 degrees, hardness in the range of 5-20 degrees and the active response of the medium is 6.8-7.5 pH.

If you are the owner of a spacious aquarium, you can have several males, however, in this case, clashes between them are likely. In this case, it is always better to look after the fish, although such clashes do not end with anything serious. As a rule, the male picks up some shelter for himself and gets out of it only when you come to feed your pets.

Surprisingly, these apistograms are not only peaceful, they can also be phlegmatic. Often during feeding, these fish can be pushed back by more agile neighbors such as Sumatran barbs.

To feed tsikhlovyh best live food, but they also do not disdain dry and frozen food.

To breed a cockatoo apistogram, the aquarist does not require special training. The female herself selects a shelter in which she lays up to a hundred eggs, which are then carefully guarded.

While caring for offspring, the female turns yellow. While the female is guarding the nest, the male patrols the area. Incubation of caviar takes several days, and after another 4 days the fry already swim around the aquarium.

Starter feed for fry: rotifers, nauplii artemia and dry food “Micro-Min”. In order to prevent the degeneration of brighter gray fish, it is better to carry out regular selection.
