What to feed snails Achatina at home

On land there are separate groups of land mollusks. The giant Achatina snails are one of the largest.

They have an exotic look. Outwardly, only specialists can distinguish them. At the same time, care for clams of the Ahatin family is approximately the same.

Feeding snails Achatina at home can be a varied diet, as the representatives of this category are omnivores.

The giant Achatina snails are one of the largest groups of mollusks.

The process of absorbing food in this animal is carried out through a special tongue covered with horny spikes. In natural habitats Achatina feed on the following:

  • carrion
  • rotting plants;
  • algae;
  • mushrooms;
  • citrus peels;
  • lichen.

Snail nutrition includes hundreds of different types of vegetation, including pumpkin, beans, lettuce, onions and potatoes. In America, snails of this group are considered to be a real national disaster.

They multiply very quickly, devouring practically everything that comes their way. That is why the Achatina breeding at home is strictly prohibited in this country.

For violation of this prescription, you can even go to prison.

According to observations, the giant mollusk has food preferences that change with aging. Younger representatives love living plants more, while older ones love rotting vegetation.

In order for the mollusk’s shell to acquire a strong structure, the young individuals scrape the limestone particles. They also eat the shell of dead mollusks, crushed egg shells.

The basis of nutrition is natural greens, lettuce leaves. You can also feed the Akhatinskaya snail:

  • vegetable crops;
  • germinated cereals;
  • beet and carrot tops.

Fresh Chinese cabbage is one of their favorite delicacies. Sometimes these animals show selectivity in food.

It is important for the host to try different types of diets in order to adapt to the tastes of his pet and find a suitable solution for him. Be sure to give:

  • zucchini;
  • tomatoes;
  • cucumbers;
  • cobs of young corn.

Snails respond positively to avocados and pineapple, mango and strawberries. The health benefits of clam, plantain, burdock, flax and sesame seeds will bring health.

Berries and fruits must be cut into small slices. If the food is quite strong, it is necessary to grind it with a kitchen blender.

Experienced breeders recommend offering clams with oak and birch leaves, freshly squeezed carrot and pumpkin juice. Any food that is offered to the snail should not be too cold and hot.

In no case should you give smoked snails, pickled and spicy dishes. Also banned are salt, sweets, oranges and lemons, currants, gooseberries, fatty meats, sour cream and cream.

Any bakery products and pasta can lead to intestinal obstruction.

There are certain additives that are prohibited to receive – this is calcium D3 and calcium gluconate. Do not give specialized food for dogs and cats.

Any sharp varieties of pepper, onion and garlic, radish, radish, ginger, wormwood and sorrel – all this can cause irreparable harm to the pet.

It is necessary to feed the snail in the evening hours, as these are night creatures that show maximum activity at night. Adults are offered food once a day, while young snails need constant access to food. Do not put pieces of food on the ground.

To do this, you must use a miniature tray or a special bowl.

Owners often use a leaf of lettuce for this purpose. In the summer, the diet of shellfish is rich in plenty of greens, vegetables and fruits. In winter, all this disappears, and you have to switch to alternative types of feed.

Cabbage and carrots, pumpkin and beets can supply valuable substances. You can take apples, bananas, cut them into small pieces and add to low-fat cottage cheese.

For land mollusks suitable feed produced for herbivorous fish. You can buy them at the pet store.

Some owners of snails are grown on the windowsill and greens in pots. Fruits and berries, like vegetables, must be properly washed before giving to a pet.

This allows you to remove all harmful pesticides and nitrates present on the surface of the products.
