Dear colleagues! Dwarf orange cancer is an invertebrate from the family Kambarid.
Among lovers of invertebrates, it is known by another name: mandarin cancer. In nature, it is found in freshwater lakes and rivers in Mexico.
Tangerine cancer is a commonplace descendant of common gray cancer. And I got my motley orange color tangerine cancer thanks to meticulous selection. On the shell of the animal you can notice darker spots and longitudinal stripes.
Adult crayfish do not differ in outstanding size and for this they are called dwarf. Under natural conditions, female mandarin crayfish grow no more than 6 centimeters in length, and males are a couple less centimeters.
But even considering their modest size, invertebrates have powerful claws, which they use in regular sparring with their rivals. In females claws are fragile and miniature.
In aquarium conditions, pascurao crayfish can live up to two years.
Both in nature and in artificial conditions, these cancers do not show excessive aggression. They are more properly called indifferent to other inhabitants of the aquarium, including aquarium fish.
Therefore, they get along perfectly with any peaceful fish in the same tank. The only condition is that it is not necessary to move the crayfish to large and aggressive fish, for example, cichlids and catfish.
If fish fry appeared in your tank, the crayfish can stalk them around the pond and eat them.
It is not necessary to settle in a single reservoir of a strong large number of mandarin crayfish, since they live apart in nature. This is especially true for males, as they are prone to the manifestation of intraspecific aggression towards other animals of their gender. The best option is to buy one male and several females.
The tank must be at least 60 liters in volume. If you want to contain not one, but several families of this species of invertebrates, then the aquarium will need impressive sizes.
It is also not recommended to settle these crayfish with other types of dwarf invertebrates.
As aquarium soil it is better to use dark fine gravel, as it beautifully emphasizes the orange color of the invertebrate. Substrate thickness should be at least 4 centimeters, since aquarium plants will also grow in the aquarium. Experienced aquaterraumists advise you to put a few oak leaves on top of the ground, and in the spring you can take last year’s fallen leaves for these purposes.
We do not forget that all invertebrates like to hide in shelters in the form of interweaving of curtains and heaps of stones. The light in aquas should be diffused.
The temperature of the water in the homeland of mandarin crayfish varies between 20-24 degrees, its hardness is 10-15 degrees and the pH is around 7. Regular water changes in the amount of 1/3 of the volume every week are welcomed and you need to install high-quality aeration and filtration.
In eating orange crayfish unpretentious. They are happy to eat vegetable and animal feed, and in particular: sea fish, boiled shrimp, artemia, fresh cucumbers and pelleted feed.
In addition, food for snails and dead leaves of aquarium plants are used.
Patscuaro crayfish become sexually mature if their length reaches the 20 mm mark. If you maintain upkeep conditions, then soon you will take numerous litter of young crustaceans.
During spawning, crayfish are advised to add to the diet foliage from oak and beech. The size of the crustaceans that have just appeared does not exceed 4 mm.
From the first days they hide in secluded and hard-to-reach places, therefore aquaterraumists cannot immediately find them.
