Varieties of frog a huge amount. The main family is subdivided into three subfamilies, in which there are about 900 species. Among the most famous, belonging to the subfamily Hylinae, can be identified:

During the breeding season, the males make a sound that is similar to the sound of small pebbles against each other.

The snapping frog got its name because the males make sounds similar to clicking in the mating season.

  • Cricket tree frog. It dwells mainly in North America in wet ravines, small reservoirs, where there is dense grass vegetation. On the skin of this woodgrain no warts. In addition to these species, there are several other subfamilies. All tree frogs are very diverse in color, but combined in a general view.

When the breeding season comes, the frogs choose a suitable place for themselves. This is usually a small standing body of water that surrounds dense and high vegetation (shrubs or rushes). Males are in the water and call females rhythmic calls.

It was the males that nature awarded with throat resonators., which they actively use during the mating season and thanks to which the melody characteristic of frogs is heard. On the reservoir, which will serve as a spawning ground, male frogs gather from the whole region and their choral singing reaches its apogee in the evening.

A distinctive feature of males is the throat sac, thanks to which they make loud enough sounds necessary to attract females in the mating season

Females begin to gather to the breeding site only in order to lay eggs, and the males remain on the breeding ground throughout the spawning period. In view of this, there are always more of them on the reservoir, and females have a choice.

The female lays eggs in several portions (from three to twenty-one). They are a small clump of eggs that attaches to aquatic plants. In one portion can be from 15 to 215 eggs.

Embryo development lasts approximately two weeks, after which they become larvae, and their growth continues from 1.5 to three months.

Sometimes in small frogs, the larvae grow only after winter, and they overwinter with larvae. Sexual maturity of frogs reach two to four years.

Life expectancy in the natural environment is about 12 years, and when maintained in terrariums, it grows to 20–22 years.

There are several ways to keep these frogs at home. The best option for living in an apartment is to place a pet in a terrarium.

You can choose both horizontal and vertical. They are selected depending on the type of animal and its preferences.

It is better to place the terrarium near the wall so that it is protected from direct sunlight.

Sometimes there is a molt in tree frogs. They shed their skin and at the same time almost immediately eat it.

Ventilation must be present in the terrarium., as well as it should be equipped with fluorescent lamps.

Tree frogs have a molting period when they shed their old skin off.

To increase the temperature, you can purchase a special mat that is mounted on the bottom of the tank on the outside of the terrarium. However, the entire area is not worth it, otherwise the pet may overheat.

Do not place such a device inside the animal’s habitat – it is very dangerous.

Caring for such a pet is not too difficult. It basically consists of the following points:

  • arrangement of the terrarium;
  • maintaining optimal temperature;
  • choosing a suitable soil;
  • feeding animals.

Any owner of such a pet wants to equip his home as beautiful and comfortable as possible. First of all, the ground is poured on the bottom of the terrarium, and a small body of water should be organized.

For the vertical decoration, a wooden snag that was found on the street may be suitable, and if the size of the terrarium allows, then you can put a stump with a hollow in it.

Frogs like heat and humidity

In addition, we must not forget about the greening of the home. To do this, you can use vines, ferns and other vegetation.

It can be purchased at the pet store. Be sure to clean the glass and inside contents of the home of an unusual pet.

Thanks to this, it will be possible to protect the frog from diseases and improve its living conditions.

As for the temperature, you should know that the frog loves heat and high humidity, so in the place of its residence should maintain the temperature at 20−30 degrees. It depends more on the type of amphibian and time of day.

We can not allow the pet to overcool or overheat, because it can negatively affect its skin and life processes.
