The Central Asian tortoise belongs to the family Testudinidae (tortoises). In nature, its habitat is Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, Iran and Kazakhstan.

Its difference is the slowness and slowness. She lives in holes.

The Central Asian species of turtles is very interesting and quite unpretentious. Pet easily can be kept in an apartment or house. Externally, the animal has a rounded body, short in stature, the color of its shell is yellow-brown, and dark blurry spots are clearly visible on it.

The upper part of the carapace consists of 13 horny scutes with grooves and 16 plastrons, the lower part – of 25 scutes. Interestingly, the age of an individual can be determined by the number of grooves.

The length of the turtle on average is 25 centimeters. Males are smaller in size compared to mature females. On the front legs there are 4 fingers.

On the rear there are bumps. Females reach puberty at 10 years of age, and males are already in their sixth year of life.

The name of the reptile itself speaks of its range. It is found in semi-deserts and steppes, regions with arid conditions.

Some representatives can be found near the mountains and even at an altitude of up to a thousand meters. Until recently, many turtles were found in river valleys and economic lands.

Despite the fact that their range is quite wide, the number of Central Asian turtles decreases annually. That is why this species is listed in the Red Book.

Feature of the form is complete simplicity. The main thing is that the content of the Central Asian tortoise is literate – a thoroughly composed diet and the correct housing are chosen.

In housing conditions, the reptile should be kept in an aquarium or terrarium, the size of which should not be less than 70 cm x 60 cm x 20 cm. Naturally, the larger the area, the more comfortable an exotic pet will be.

As the soil you need to use organic litter. It can be high-quality dry hay, wood chips, or large-sized pebbles.

Pebble is the perfect option, because of her reptile can comb her nails in a natural way.

It is forbidden to provide a tortoise with free walking around the apartment. Drafts and dust are enemies for a pet.

It is better to arrange a special pen in one of the rooms, if the area allows.

In the terrarium there must be an ultraviolet lamp with a 10% spectrum of light and a temperature of 22–25 to 32–35 degrees. Ultraviolet – a vital necessity for reptiles.

Thanks to the backlight, the turtle’s body absorbs calcium and vitamin D3, which protects against the development of rickets. To provide the necessary heating, an ordinary incandescent lamp of 40 or 60 watts is additionally placed in the terrarium.

It is not recommended to install heating stones or thermal cords.

The Central Asian tortoise does not need special care and feeding. From time to time you need to change the ground, clean the terrarium, feeders, drinkers and decorative elements.

General cleaning is carried out once a month using non-toxic products.

In nature, the reptile feeds on fruits, shrubs, berries, and melons and gourds. At home, it is necessary to provide herbal food and high-quality food.

Home turtle eats with almost any greens with pleasure and grass (carrot tops, lettuce, plantain, hay, dandelion).
