Hello colleagues! Blue Cuban cancer belongs to the Higher Crustaceans and the Kambarid family. In nature, this representative of crustaceans prefers to live in small reservoirs of the island of Cuba.
Why there? Because in Cuba, these shallow reservoirs quickly warm under the sun and they are fairly clean.
On the territory of the USSR, this cancer came back in 1980.
Despite the name, the color of the cancer can vary from reddish brown to light blue, and mainly depends on the conditions in which it is contained. As soon as the animal is two years old, its shell becomes bright and saturated color.
Unfortunately, adult animals can not boast of outstanding size. The length of the body without claws is from 6 to 12 centimeters, but in nature it is sometimes possible to meet individuals whose length reaches 15 centimeters.
In aquariums, the cancer slowly moves along the bottom and is looking for food. Claws with the animal puts forward. With the help of their claws, animals are protected in the event of a predator attack.
In addition, there are small spines on the claws. Long whiskers are organs of smell and touch. To move, the Cuban cancer has to use 4 pairs of legs located below the cephalothorax.
The belly consists of 5 segmetov. On the inner side of the abdomen there are pleopods that constantly move. On the last fifth segment of the fin attached with five shovels.
This type of cancer clearly shows differences between the female and the male. In males, claws are much more powerful than females.
The first two pairs of abdominal pads form gonopodium, which takes part in fertilization.
For a crustacean to feel healthy it is necessary to acquire an average aquarium, the volume of which should be calculated based on 20 liters per couple of adult animals. Water should have the following parameters: hardness 8-12dH, acidity 4.8-7.6 pH and water temperature 23-25 degrees.
In addition, do not forget to thoroughly blow the aquarium air. Since the animal needs calcium to form the shell, make sure that the water hardness is as high as possible.
As a substrate, it is better to use a light soil, mainly sand.
Very often, crayfish need privacy, especially in the process of reproduction and discarding the shell. Therefore, install in the aquarium more shelters in the form of caves and grottoes of stones.
Also plant hard-leaved aquarium plants with a strong root system (Anubias nana, hygrophilus long-leaved, Vallisneria spiral and gigantic). It is also sometimes advised to place Javanese moss in an aquarium with crayfish.
In the afternoon, the blue Cuban cancer is a peace-loving ferret, but with the arrival of night its carnivorous character manifests itself and it turns into a predator.
Very often small fry go to dinner for the shrimp, which stay near the bottom and rest. Big fish that live in the middle and upper layers of water are simply not available for the animal. Even a growing crustacean can eat a sleeping guppy, red neon or antsistrusom.
Cuban crawfish with pleasure eats up bloodworm and tubule. In addition, for the dilution of their diet can be given meat, fresh fish and dry food for catfish.
If you feed the beast every day at the same time, the cancer will get used to it and crawl to the place of feeding exactly at the appointed hour. If you feed your pet insufficiently, then they can eat aquarian plants with delicate leaves, and in extremely rare cases – hard-leaved plants fall under the distribution. When molting, crayfish shed their shell and eat it.
The process of molting is painful, therefore sometimes during molting the crayfish may not eat and sit in their hole.
Cancer reaches puberty at the age of 6 months. Unlike aquarium fish, reproduction in crayfish can take up to one and a half hours.
For three weeks, the female bears black caviar on the pleopods. The diameter of the eggs does not exceed 2 mm.
In time, the caviar will become completely transparent. At the end of the gestation period, small 2 mm crustaceans with transparent shell will hatch from the eggs.
Since mom and dad will not take long care of their children, they will soon need to be transplanted into another reservoir with a water temperature of 25-26 degrees.
If the spawning takes place in the spawning ground, then the producers are deposited back into the aquarium, and the young growth is left in the spawning aquas. From the first minutes of his life, a trifle begins posiki food.
Starter feed for small crustaceans – ciliates. If you do not want the youngsters to die from the lack of oxygen, install a filter and a compressor in the spawning tank.
Crayfish grow quickly, you will not even have time to blink an eye, as already a new party will multiply.
