Arrangement and design of an aquarium for the red-eared turtle

When choosing a pet you need to know how to properly care for him. He certainly needs to prepare suitable housing. In order not to be mistaken with the selection of an aquarium for a red-eared turtle, one should understand what is its natural habitat.

If you create the right conditions, the animal will be in good health and live a long time.

When choosing an aquaterrarium for a red-eared turtle, it is necessary to take into account the size of an adult individual and the peculiarities of the work of its body. Reptiles spend a lot of time under water, feeling more secure there. The volume of the tank depends on the size of the turtles:

  • individuals 3-10 cm long – up to 50 liters;
  • 10–16 cm – up to 80 liters;
  • 25 cm – up to 150 liters;
  • adults – 120-170 liters.

It is advisable to start arranging an aquarium for a red-eared turtle from the ground.

Do not use sand, glass pebbles and pebbles, since all this pet can bite through. It is better to give preference to seashells larger – this will make the house for the pet more beautiful and saturate the liquid with calcium.

You can also use a variety of mineral blocks.

In addition to water, reptiles also need land, where it will bask and sunbathe. Such a site should occupy at least a fourth of the total area of the tank.

Mount the island to the base of the aquarium should be strong. Aquaterrarium must be equipped with a cover that turtles could not move.

At the same time, such a cap must allow air to pass through itself so that the pets can breathe.

The reptile spends a lot of time on the coast, so you can safely equip several sections of land. Each animal should make a separate island. One should be placed in the shade, and the other in a lit place.

While on land, the reptile gets an ultraviolet tan. Setting the islets It is important to listen to the following recommendations:

  1. The shore should rise smoothly from the bottom, steep cliffs are unacceptable. You can leave a ladder or a small ladder, use a large stone or a grotto that has flat walls.
  2. The surface of the land must be made rough, it must be made of high quality materials.
  3. For several turtles, a large area will be needed so that they can simultaneously be on land, freely fitting there.
  4. If there are many islands, some of them can be covered with water for a few millimeters.

To reptiles do not run away, you need to have land plots 30 cm below the edge of the aquarium.

The turtle turtle feels comfortable in the water, the temperature of which is in the range of 23-28 ° C. On a shaded island, it is necessary to maintain a temperature of 23-25 ° C, and on a warm island – 28-32 ° C.

Such conditions are ideal for this reptile.

Main heating provides a special lamp, which is fixed above one of the land. When it is not possible to achieve the required temperature with one lamp, additional heating should be used, for example, a heater made in the form of a long glass tube.

Such a heater is immersed in water. It is necessary to arrange it so that the pet could not accidentally bite the electric wire or hurt him with his shell.

The health of reptiles is influenced by many factors, among which is the state of the water in the reservoir. To keep the liquid clean, it is better to install external filters.

As for the internal equipment, it is preferable not to use it. It quickly loses its effectiveness, clogging up the suspensions.

The better the filter functions, the less often you will need to change the water. To maintain ecological balance, you need to change half the volume of liquid every week.

Incandescent bulbs should be placed above one of the land. The light turns on only during the day. Be sure to take into account that red-eared turtles need UV light (only UVB and UVA rays).

Under no circumstances should UVC be used, since such coverage can lead to reptile blindness.

Without UV radiation in animals, vitamin D3 is not produced and calcium is not absorbed, and this can provoke rickets and even lead to death. The lamp must be turned on 12 hours a day.

It is placed on top at a distance of 30 cm from the ground. Once a year the UV lamp is replaced.

Such an aquarium is necessary for a red-eared turtle. What will be the decor, everyone decides for himself.

When you design an aquarium should be aware of safety – this is the main principle of the selection of decorations. It is not necessary to use items in the decor about which the pet may get hurt.

Sharp corners and edges are unacceptable.

Do not use too shallow soil, as animals can swallow it. Such soil quickly becomes dirty, and its cleaning is not the easiest process.

It is preferable to take a pebble fraction of 5-6 cm.

For small individuals, you can plant green plants. Adult turtles no longer need soil, and they can eat plants.

As for the fish, it is appropriate to run them only to young reptiles.
